We report the feasibility of precision broadband dispersion control with multilayer mirrors produced in a single coating run. Inherent fluctuations of the group-delay dispersion (GDD) are suppressed by using the mirrors at two different angles of incidence. With a specialized version of the needle optimization algorithm, we have designed the multilayer structure to yield a complementary pair with a resultant GDD substantially free from spectral oscillations characteristic of broadband chirped multilayers. Since the mirrors employed at two different incidence angles are produced in a single deposition run, their overall dispersion is more robust to errors in layer thicknesses than that of previous complementary mirror pairs manufactured in two different steps. This offers the potential for improving production yield and quality of femtosecond dispersion control. We have successfully used the first "double-angle" mirrors for compressing pulses to a duration of 4.3 fs.
In the modern micro-electronics, transition metal oxides due to their colossal values of dielectric permittivity possess huge potential for the development of capacitive energy storage devices. In the present work, the dielectric permittivity and the effects of temperature and frequency on the electrical transport properties of polycrystalline NdFeO3, prepared by solid state reaction method, are discussed. Room temperature Mossbauer spectrum confirms the phase purity, octahedral environment for Fe ion, and high spin state of Fe3+ ion. From the impedance spectroscopic measurements, three relaxation processes are observed, which are related to grains, grain boundaries (gbs), and electrode-semiconductor contact in the measured temperature and frequency ranges. Decrease in resistances and relaxation times of the grains and grain boundaries with temperature confirms the involvement of thermally activated conduction mechanisms. Same type of charge carriers (i.e., small polaron hole hopping) have been found responsible for conduction and relaxation processes through the grain and grain boundaries. The huge value of the dielectric constant (∼8 × 103) at high temperature and low frequency is correlated to the Maxwell-Wagner relaxation due to electrode-sample contact.
On the quest towards reaching petawatt-scale peak power light pulses with few-cycle duration, optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) pumped on a time scale of a few picoseconds represents a very promising route. Here we present an experimental demonstration of few-ps OPCPA in DKDP, in order to experimentally verify the feasibility of the scheme. Broadband amplification was observed in the wavelength range of 830-1310 nm. The amplified spectrum supports two optical cycle pulses, at a central wavelength of ~920 nm, with a pulse duration of 6.1 fs (FWHM). The comparison of the experimental results with our numerical calculations of the OPCPA process showed good agreement. These findings confirm the reliability of our theoretical modelling, in particular with respect to the design for further amplification stages, scaling the output peak powers to the petawatt scale.
Purpose
This study aims to unveil the determinants of employer branding (EB) that attracts and retains the employees working in the Indian higher education sector using the factor-analytic approach.
Design/methodology/approach
The study is cross-sectional, and the data were collected from 141 employees working in the higher education sector. Exploratory factor analysis and independent t-test were deployed to analyze the data.
Findings
The results of independent samples t-test explicate that perception of male and female university employees pertaining to EB factors of employee attraction (EA) and employee retention (ER) is congruent. Further, the perception of employees in public and private universities on EB factor is similar for ER and non-similar for EA.
Originality/value
The present research is an effort to unveil the employee attraction and retention factors that play a vital role in showcasing an employer as a great place to work in the Indian higher education sector.
We present the development of a light source for generating optically synchronized seed pulses both for the parametric amplifier chain and the pump-laser chain of the Petawatt Field Synthesizer (PFS), which is currently under construction at MPQ. The PFS system aims at delivering waveform-controlled few-cycle laser pulses with PW-scale peak power using optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA). Methods of generating the broadband nearinfrared (NIR) seed pulses for the OPCPA chain by spectral broadening using few-cycle pulses are presented. We also demonstrate the generation of a supercontinuum spanning up to three octaves (270-1500 nm) using cascaded hollowcore fibers which supports sub-cycle pulse duration.
