A crescente expansão da construção civil com o desenvolvimento de novos materiais e técnicas construtivas, a inserção de resíduos e de materiais renováveis tem sido de suma importância para o desenvolvimento do setor construtivo e manutenção do meio em soluções sustentáveis. A areia diatomácea resultante da filtração nas cervejarias é um resíduo cuja estrutura cristalina apresenta diferentes funções. Podendo ser utilizada como agregado em concreto, contrapisos, enchimentos de laje, são incombustíveis e aliviam a carga estrutural. No Brasil por sua cultura o resíduo ainda é empregado de forma muito rara, sua exploração neste ramo é quase nula, assim como o incentivo de sua utilização em grande escala. Sendo assim, este trabalho procura demonstrar o uso do resíduo da areia diatomácea como material constituinte do tijolo de solo cimento que pode ser utilizado como elemento estrutural ou de vedação de uma construção. A sua utilização como substituto do agregado miúdo foram estudadas em várias situações, onde foi alterado o percentual do resíduo em cada traço. São apresentados os resultados de resistência à compressão aos 28 dias e índice de absorção de água, os quais as amostras que obtiveram resultado superior a 1,7 Mpa, valor recomendado pela Norma NBR 10834/ABNT, podem ser utilizados como material de alvenaria não estrutural.
