A potencialidade turística da região do Totoró [composto pelas comunidades rurais Totoró, Trangola, Namorados e Quandú], no município de Currais Novos, Rio Grande do Norte, é percebida, a priori, pelos cenários naturais e aspectos históricos e culturais existentes nessa região. Desse modo, o artigo tem como objetivo geral propor a atividade turística na perspectiva do turismo rural e da agricultura familiar na referida região. Trata-se de um estudo empírico com abordagem qualitativo-descritiva, por intermédio da pesquisa de campo com entrevistas e interpretação da análise dos dados. A pesquisa foi capaz de revelar pontos satisfatórios, indicando que a região do Totoró pode vir a desenvolver o segmento do turismo rural na agricultura familiar, por apresentar elementos diferenciais para a execução de tal atividade, em caráter de complementariedade de sua renda. Assim, ressalta-se a importância no planejamento turístico em ambientes rurais, buscando o desenvolvimento local, que respeite os modos de vida dos residentes. , 8(IV), pp. 464-479, out-dez, 2016.
