The macroprogramming concept relates to the ability to abstract low-level details from a variety of devices. In this sense, programming solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT) with macroprogramming can be an alternative to the challenges of volume and heterogeneity. This paper describes a systematic mapping on macroprogramming in IoT and wireless sensor networks from 2004 to 2020. As a result, we verify the recurrence of abstractions in the network infrastructure, highlighting the use of frameworks in one-third of the applications, contributing to provide an overview of the use of macroprogramming by researchers in different areas of knowledge.
In order to deal with the complexity of context-aware applications' development, the literature has reported an increasing demand for intelligent infrastructures which process heterogeneous context information and also provide real-time distributed communication. This paper outlines the Hermes software infrastructure to supporting the development of real-time, semantic context-aware applications. The main contribution is the anatomy of the Hermes Interpreter component in which the semantics of context is kept decoupled and context changes are notified in real-time. Benefits for applications developers include a reference architecture for context interpreters as well as the reuse of a complex infrastructure providing real-time distributed context notification. We have been working on a scenario of vital signs monitoring towards validating both the infrastructure and the interpreter component.
The mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) are those whose nodes have mobility, energy restriction and operate simultaneously as end systems and router. One of the main problems found in MANETs is the occurrence of selfish nodes, which are those that refuse to route packets for other nodes. To address the issue of selfish nodes in MANETs and improve the flow of traffic in these networks, this paper proposes an extension to the OLSR protocol, based on Fuzzy logic, called OLSR Fuzzy Cost (OLSR -FC). Using the NS-2 simulator, the OLSR-FC proposal was compared to other extensions of OLSR protocol (e.g., OLSR-ETX, OLSR-ML e OLSR-MD) concerning the performance metrics: packet loss, end-to-end delay, Jitter, power consumption, routing overhead and throughput. The results showed that OLSR-FC obtains better performance than the evaluated extensions, avoiding selfish nodes and selecting routes whose links have little packet losses.
This paper contributes with a knowledge representation model of the human vital sign monitoring activity based on Semantic Web specifications for ontologies and Horn-like rules. The proposed model is founded in interviews with intensive care units professionals, medical and nursing literature, and the reuse of existing ontologies. As a result, this work contributes with an ontology describing vital signs, actors and temporal information involved in monitoring, a set of requirements underlying to that model, and dozens of Horn-like rules describing alarms and the respective abnormal values for each vital sign.
