Este artigo tem o objetivo de analisar o romance Terra de Caruaru (publicado inicialmente em 1960), do escritor pernambucano José Condé, à luz dos vínculos mantidos entre a memória e a história. Os referenciais teóricos timbrados na análise, a partir de Sandra Jatahy Pesavento, Antonio Candido, Carlo Ginzburg, Jeanne Marie Gagnebin, Aleida Assmann, entre outros, propuseram refletir sobre as marcas existentes dentro do texto literário que viabilizam remeter à exterioridade, tendo como eixos norteadores da investigação os vieses mnemônicos e históricos. A narrativa condeana, ambientada na cidade de Caruaru, localizada na mesorregião do Agreste de Pernambuco, aponta para aspectos biográficos do autor, modelando a obra dialeticamente pelas reminiscências da sua infância, que aparecem fortemente na narrativa. Além disso, na simbiose entre o literário e o histórico, o texto constrói o horizonte da gênese municipal e seu cotidiano sociopolítico na década de 20 do século XX, amalgamado pelo coronelismo, pelo cangaço, pelos perfis humanos, pela cultura e paisagismo do interior nordestino e pelo anseio de progresso. Com um traço regional que lhe confere originalidade estética, o romance estrutura espaços e seres diegéticos que encontram modos de significação nos recursos extratextuais que os exteriorizam, atravessando os trilhos da memória e da história.
O presente artigo visa analisar o conto “O castigo”, presente na obra O lobisomem da porteira velha, de Jayme Griz, à luz do tema da metamorfose. A partir dos condicionantes teóricos antevistos no livro A metamorfose nos contos de Lygia Fagundes Telles, de Vera Maria Tietzmann Silva, foi possível refletir sobre os aspectos conceituais da metamorfose nos estudos literários. A leitura do texto griziano alcança uma esfera ficcional em que experiências de metamorfoses acontecem em um universo sagrado e profano, banhado pelo campo do maravilhoso, e podem, ao longo da narrativa, transformar-se em um mundo que requisita o efeito fantástico. Os mistérios que cercam o conto exploram as estranhezas e superstições próprias de um lugar que tem o imaginário de seres e acontecimentos insólitos como guia.
Este artigo objetiva analisar o conto “A maldição do canavial”, em Estórias de engenho, do escritor pernambucano Claribalte Passos, à luz do fantástico. A partir de teóricos que oportunizam uma leitura do texto em diálogo com o contexto, traça-se um olhar sobre o sobrenatural que deturpa a visão de realidade da personagem e do leitor. Na narrativa, o fantástico se liga aos episódios de injustiça e se configura como maldição, cujas manifestações são os acontecimentos inexplicáveis aos olhos da razão.
