The article presents an interesting result of research aimed on traffic safety of roundabouts. The relationship between the inscribed circle diameter of roundabout and the crash rate in the roundabout is presented. There is a certain optimal size of roundabout inscribed circle diameter identified for safe operation.
Abstract. The article presents a comparison of three devices and two methods that are used to count traffic flow. All measurements were carried out at a roundabout in Ostrava, where the following devices were used: Viacount II, Icoms TSM-SA, and Nu-Metrics NC-200 traffic analyzers. The methods of manual counting of vehicles and of counting vehicles based on video footage were used. The article also provides a comparison of the results obtained, namely in terms of traffic intensity, and of the measurements of the length and speed of vehicles. Further, we evaluate the results and explore the deviations from reality and the reasons why they occur. The article concludes with the recommended procedure designed to eliminate the identified problems, in order to ensure the most accurate results, with no significant deviations.
The article deals with a brief description of methodology for monitoring and evaluation road users behavior with usage of video – so-called video analysis of conflict situations, which is used for evaluation of road traffic quality in Czech Republic. There are also presented results of analysis of conflict situations at concrete T-intersection with cranked priority.
The parking of vehicles in inhabited areas is a problem of majority of town with developed road traffic. The deficiency of parking place especially in town centers causes a lot of conflicts which influence the traffic flow continuity and traffic safety. Newly established parking places are usually occupied in short time and the problem is repeated. Trying to locate a lot of parking places on limited space of urban road results in various conflict situations when the vehicles parked along the road (lengthwise, perpendicularly or at angle) reach the roadway, the drivers enter the running lane during getting out of a vehicle or getting in a vehicle, etc. The paper presented brings results of analysis of conflict situations from such urban road with parking places along the road with use of video analysis. There are also presented designs for solutions of these problems with the purpose to increase the safety of all road participants.
Driving style is affected by development of cars and it has influence on the capacity of designed elements of roads and highways. Therefore, based on research, more accurate methods for assessing the capacity of road infrastructure are being developed. This paper presents the results of the research of weaving segments. It is focused on capacity assessment of these sections within the Czech Republic. Attention is focused especially on weaving segments in urban conditions with high traffic volume and on road sections with a speed limit less than 80 km per hour. Research verified the possibility of using these purposes by existing methodology developed for roads with a speed limit up to 80 km per hour.
