This paper presents an interactive geo-visualizer on the incidence of Covid-19 cases, as well as the associated mortality, in the US-Mexico cross-border strip. This tool allows to compare the evolution of the pandemic process in border municipalities and counties, using interactive graphs that show accumulated case and death curves. The map includes the information of confirmed cases of Covid-19 until August 31, 2020 in the 25 US counties and 38 Mexican municipalities adjacent to the border line, which extend from San Diego/Tijuana to Cameron/Matamoros. It also includes information on the number of border crossings per person from January to July 2020, the purpose of which is to compare the incidence of cases with the behavior of cross-border mobility.
ResumenPara enfrentar el cambio y variabilidad climáticas, las instituciones públicas necesitan el manejo de información científica sustentada en una gran cantidad de observaciones confiables, y a la vez una estrategia de comunicación para permitir la utilización de la información por sectores claves de la sociedad. Presentamos la visualización cartográfica dinámica de imágenes diarias de variables climáticas básicas (precipitación, temperatura mínima, temperatura máxima) adaptadas de los modelos numéricos "Atmosphere Ocean General Circulation Models" (AOGCM). La estructura NetCDF ("cubo de datos") permitió una alta escalabilidad en cuanto a la conformación de series temporales, su visualización y su descarga. Esta plataforma fue aceptada por el INEGI para estar incorporada en el Mapa Digital de México.
AbstractIn the context of climate variability and change, public institutions need the management of scientific information supported by a large amount of reliable observations, and at the same time a communication strategy which allows the use of this information by key social sectors. We present the dynamic cartographic visualization of daily basic climatic variables (precipitation, minimum temperature, maximum temperature), adapted from the Atmosphere Ocean General Circulation Models (AOGCM). The underlying data structure is based on the NetCDF format ("data cubes") which allows a high scalability for the construction of timeseries, visualization and download. This platform was accepted by INEGI to be incorporated into the Mexican Digital Map.
