Reservoir Operation in Sergipe via Rule Curves Parameterized by Simulation-Optimization ModelAbstract This paper presents a study on allocation policies that can be applied to water supply reservoirs. Operational rule curves are developed by means of the parameterization-simulation-optimization (PSO) approach and applied to the monthly operation of the Poxim river dam reservoir, Sergipe. Initially, historical inflow records are used to calibrate the parameters of the model. Later, a hundred 100-year synthetic inflow scenarios are applied to validate the procedure. For comparison purposes, other modeling strategies are utilized: the standard reservoir operating policy (SOP), perfect-forecast deterministic optimization (PFDO) and stochastic dynamic programming (SDP). The results indicate that the PSO provides performance close to the PFDO and vulnerabilities lower than those by SOP and SDP, justifying its adoption for its simplified mathematics.
