RESUMENSe estudió la dieta de Dissostichus eleginoides, en tres áreas de la costa centro-sur de Chile, entre 36° y 51° S. El análisis de 1583 estómagos, de los cuales el 12,8% presentaron contenido, indicó que su espectro trófico, alcanzó 22 familias y 26 especies animales. Según el IIR, los peces óseos constituyen el 95,6% de la dieta, siendo las familias Macrouridae y Ophidiidae las más importantes que pudieron ser identificadas, representando el 21,1% y 11,2% del IIR respectivamente, con menor importancia aparecen cefalópodos y sólo ocasionalmente Anthozoa y Polychaeta. No se observa variación intraespecífica en la dieta, asociada al sexo o al tamaño de los individuos, en el rango de tamaños estudiados (57 a 161 cm de LT). Se observan diferencias geográficas significativas entre las dietas de peces cuyo origen fue el área más austral, respecto de los peces capturados en las áreas septentrionales, en tanto que entre las últimas, la composición de su dieta es similar. Lo anterior se explica por el alto consumo de cefalópodos de la familia Onychoteuthidae en la zona más austral y la nula depredación sobre esta familia en aguas profundas más al norte. Se evidencia variación estacional en la dieta, en las tres áreas estudiadas, así en Primavera-Verano se alimenta preferentemente de peces ofididos, mientras que en la época de Otoño-Invierno, aumenta notoriamente la participación de cefalópodos y peces macrúridos en su dieta, convirtiéndose en todos los casos la última categoría en presa principal. En la época de Otoño-Invierno además, se incrementa el aporte en número de individuos, frecuencia y cantidad de especies de cefalópodos en la dieta de D. eleginoides en las tres áreas analizadas y en particular en el área más austral, en dónde la familia Onychoteuthidae duplica su representación, llegando a más de un 8% IIR. De acuerdo a los índices H' y J' obtenidos, la especie presentaría una estrecha heterogeneidad trófica, correspondiendo a una especie estenófaga (H'= 0,50), lo cual es asociado a una baja uniformidad (J'= 0,39), comportándose como un carnívoro secundario y/o terciario, que depreda principalmente sobre peces Gadiformes y Ophidiiformes demersales, además de cefalópodos téutidos mesopelágicos, alcanzando el último grupo especial importancia en la zona sur de Chile.PALABRAS CLAVES: Bacalao de profundidad, ecología trófica, ambientes profundos, talud continental, Chile. The detected parasites present a risk to human health, so it seems necessary to implement health education activities in the community, develop deworming plans, and control the canine overpopulation.

El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la presencia de ecto y endoparásitos en una población canina ubicada en un sector rural montañoso de la región de Valparaíso, Chile. Treinta caninos fueron sometidos a inspección clínica para recolectar ectoparásitos y heces del recto. Las muestras de heces fueron analizadas mediante la técnica coproparasitaria de Burrows y el Test SNAP® Giardia (IDEXX). El 73% de los caninos presentaron endoparasitismo a la técnica coproparasitaria. Se identificaron los helmintos Toxocara canis (40%), Strongyloides stercoralis (17%), Dipylidium caninum (17%), Uncinaria stenocephala (13%), Ancylostoma caninum (7%) Trichuris vulpis (3%), y los protozoos Isospora sp (13%), Sarcocystis sp (3%), Entamoeba coli (3%) y Blastocystis sp (3%). La prevalencia de Giardia sp fue de 17%, pero mediante el SNAP® Giardia fue de 27% (p=0.0004). Se encontraron garrapatas en 25 caninos (83%), identificándose las especies Rhipicephalus sanguineus y Amblyomma tigrinum. Así mismo, 10 caninos (33%) presentaron pulgas, identificándose las especies Ctenocephalides felis felis, Ctenocephalides canis y Pulex irritans.

This paper describes and evaluates the mortality associated with the potential stressor effect induced by application of artificial photoperiods in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). After application of artificial photoperiods, high mortalities of trout subjected to this management were recorded (36% in LD 14:10 and 25% in LD 24:0) as compared to controls (7%). The recorded signology related to diseased trout included darkening, lethargy and erratic swimming. Among the morphological changes, skin lesions and ulcerative-type necrosis could be observed. Blood tests, histopathology and isolation of pathogens identified as Flavobacterium psychrophilum, associated with Aeromonas, Pseudomonas and Saprolegnia sp., were performed. The application of artificial photoperiods suggests that fish may be more susceptible to opportunistic diseases; thus, it is advisable to emphasize preventive measures in fish subjected to this management.

Biofilm in reverse osmosis (RO) membranes is a common problem in water treatment at haemodialysis facilities. Bacteria adhere and proliferate on RO membranes, forming biofilms, obstructing and damaging the membranes and allowing the transfer of bacteria and/or cellular components potentially harmful to the health of haemodialysis patients. Our aim was to characterize the bacterial community associated to biofilm of RO membranes and to identify potentially pathogenic bacteria present in the haemodialysis systems of two dialysis centres in Chile. The diversity of the bacterial communities present on RO membranes and potable and osmosed water samples was evaluated using Illumina sequencing. Additionally, bacteria from potable water, osmosed water and RO membrane samples were isolated, characterized and identified by Sanger’s sequencing. The molecular analyses of metagenomics showed that the phyla having a greater relative abundance in both dialysis centres were Proteobacteria and Planctomycetes. Pseudomonas, Stenotrophomonas, Agrobacterium, Pigmentiphaga, Ralstonia, Arthrobacter, Bacteroides and Staphylococcus were bacterial genera isolated from the different samples obtained at both haemodialysis centres. Pseudomonas spp. was a bacterial genus with greater frequency in all samples. Pseudomonas and Staphylococcus showed higher levels of resistance to the antibiotics tested. Results demonstrated the presence of potentially pathogenic bacteria, showing resistance to antimicrobials on RO membranes and in osmosed water in both dialysis centres studied.
