We investigated the physiological response of a vibratory stimulation, which has the rhythm of heartbeats, and examined whether it is useful for the feedback stimulation for drowsy driving. We evaluated the efficiency of 4 types of vibratory rhythms for stimulation by using the sleepiness level estimated by the multiple linear regression model made from the indices of ECG and respiration. As the result, the vibratory rhythm, which has the real time heartbeats of subjects themselves, had an effect of inducing their physiological condition closer to the condition when they were struggling against the drowsiness. We concluded that the stimulation might be useful to prevent a drowsy driving if we could give it to the driver before he or she gets the severe drowsiness.
We have developed a novel catheter system, an intelligent catheter system, which is able to control a catheter by an externally-placed controller This system has made from master-slave mechanism and has following three components; 1) a joy stick as a master (for operators) 2) a catheter controller as a slave (for a patient), 3) a micro force sensor as a sensing device. This catheter tele-guiding system has abilities to perform intravascular procedures from the distant places. It may help to reduce the radiation exposures to the operators and also to help train young doctors.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a considerable risk factor of driving. The pain of cardiac events distracts driver's concentration, and ischemia brought by the CVD induces incapacity of driving. In this study, a prototype of the automated safety vehicle stop system has been developed. The system collects bio-signals through the steer-sensor and recognizes the driver's posture by a camera, and detects driver's incapacity. The system takes over the vehicle maneuver when the driver lost his capacity, and automatically drives to a safety spot by sensing the traffic environment. The system has been demonstrated in a prepared emergency scenario and verified the potential. This paper describes the concept and configuration of the system, and a future prospect of the study.
