O objetivo do estudo são os coeficientes de resistência de estruturas metálicas em situação de incêndio. Estes estão em tudo que possamos imaginar, desde o simples caminhar para o trabalho de todos os dias à incrível e sistemática produção de maquinários pesados para a indústria. Existem vários fatores para determinar as baixas e altas de se atrasar ou chegar cedo no trabalho, ou a falência ou lucros de empresas. Em fatores de segurança também estão inseridos, mas em formato de proporção e, conforme a variabilidade de um determinado corpo de estudo, será possível definir se o mesmo terá aumento ou diminuição em seu grau segurança e precisão do teórico para o real. Em estruturas metálicas, o metal tem uma grande desvantagem quando se tem como agressor altas temperaturas. Materiais metálicos têm uma boa densidade, mas essa mesma densidade, por se tratar de material metálico, sofre com um aumento de vibração elevado das partículas internas, fazendo com que o material metálico perca coesão e comece a sentir deformações plásticas naturais e grosso modo se torne “mole”. O perfil metálico tem uma baixa resistência à compressão e, se a peça ainda tiver esbeltez elevada, terá essa fragilidade no mínimo duplicada, tendo frágil resistência à flexão por influência da esbeltez. Os coeficientes serão tratados como preenchimentos para preencher os furos causados pela deficiência de resistência do componente metálico, podendo ser retratados tanto como aumento da sessão transversal do elemento metálico quanto com estrutura de apoio como proteção dos materiais contra o incêndio.
