Palavras chaves: bovino de leite, conforto térmico, frequência respiratória ABSTRACTThe thermal comfort conditions influence the animal production, in particular, the quality of milk. The aim of this study was to evaluate environmental conditions based on thermal indices (Temperature and Humidity Index: THI and Human Discomfort Index: DI), in addition to the physiological indicator (respiratory frequency) in a commercial dairy herd, during pre-and post-milking. Ten Netherland cows were observed, during 25 days, on the second milking of the day. The data were analyzed by comparison of means. The respiratory frequency was 32.6 and 39.7 movements per minute during pre-and postmilking, respectively, the average air temperature was 25.8ºC during the pre-milking and 26.4ºC during the post-milking phases and the relative humidity was 71 and 72% during pre and post-milking, respectively. The THI was within the animal alert range and the DI under heat stress. It is concluded that the animals are in critical condition, as well as the humans. It is necessary to increase actions in management and facilities for greater environmental comfort.
