Eel has a savory meaty taste and contains high levels of Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The purpose of this observation was to determine intensive rearing techniques for eel (Anguilla bicolor bicolor) at the UPTD KPSDKP for Conservation and Supervision of Marine Fishery Resources of Sicincin, West Sumatra. The preparations conducted for rearing the eel consist of providing seeds, pond preparation, water supply, feed management, water quality control, disease control, growth sampling, and harvesting eel for consumption size. The eel seeds were obtained from natural catches of glass eel in the Cimandiri river, Pelabuan Ratu, West Java. Preparation of the eel pond included cleaning the concrete pond, filling the water by observing the water input into the eel pond. The provision of water for eel rearing was obtained directly from the Kapalo Ilalang Sicincin irrigation channel to the holding tanks before flowing to the eel rearing pond. Feeding management was carried out 2 times a day, namely the percentages of feeding in the morning (35 %) and at night (55%) with a feeding rate of 3%-5%. The feed provided to these eels was in the form of a paste made of powdery pellets. Measurements of water quality for eel rearing during observations were temperature (27-29°C), pH (6-7), DO (5.9-7.8 ppm), salinity (3-4 ppt) and NH3 (0.02-0.07 mg/l). In our observations, parasites shaped like cotton were discovered, which attacked the eel body, causing death. In growth sampling, the measurement of the length and body weight of the eel once a month is necessary to be done.
:-The main constraint for Indonesian shortfin eel aquaculture is high mortality rate for glass eel to elver phase. This aim of study was to determine the activity pattern of digestive enzymes (protease, amylase and lipase) during seed eel to elver phase, i.e. day 1-71 of rearing period. Indonesian shortfin eel (Anguilla bicolor bicolor) during seed eel phase was reared in aquarium with aeration and filtration systems and fed with natural feeds (Artemia nauplii, Daphnia and silk worms). Enzyme activity samplings were carried out at day 1, 14, 28, 42, 56 and 71 of rearing period in aquarium. Measurement data were descriptive-quantitatively analyzed and presented in graphs. The study results indicated that 1) activities of protease, lipase and amylase were starting to be detected since day 1 with small-scaled activity for protease and large-scaled activity for lipase and amylase and 2) protease activity increased for 1-71 days-seed eel, amylase activity decreased at day 42 of rearing and reincreased at day 56 to 71 and lipase activity continuously decreased since day 1 to 71. The highest protease was detected at day 71, while the highest amylase and lipase activities were at day 1.

Background: Turmeric is known as a natural remedy to improve the immunity of organisms. This study aims to understand the effectiveness of turmeric-enriched pellets to improve the immunity of Clarias batrachus to Aeromonas hydrophila. Methods: The study was conducted from May to August 2020. C. batrachus fingerlings, 7-8 cm total length (TL) and 4-5 g (BW) at baseline, were kept in 30 L aquaria (10 fishes/aquarium; three replicated/treatment). Commercial pellets were mixed with turmeric powder. There were five treatment groups: P0 (control, no turmeric); P1 (0.5 g turmeric per Kg of pellets); P2 (0.7 g/Kg); P3 (0.9 g/Kg); Pp (positive control). Thirty days after being feed with turmeric-enriched pellets, all groups of fish were infected with 0.1 ml (108) of A. hydrophila suspension, intramuscularly. The P0 group did not receive injection, while Pp group were not fed with turmeric-enriched pellets but were infected with the bacteria. Fourteen days after infection, clinical signs and hematology of the fish were studied. Results: Pp fish showed heavy clinical signs of A. hydrophila, such as loss of balance, pigmentation, hemorrhages and ulcers. P0 fish did not show any symptoms, while the treated fish reveled some clinical signs of A. hydrophila to a lesser extent than Pp, indicating that the fish is able to face the A. hydrophila attack. Hematology for Pp fish revealed high white blood cells, indicating that the fish were infected. The blood condition of the P0 fish, as well as those of the turmeric-treated fish were normal. In general, the P3 fish showed the least clinical signs of A. hydrophila and normal blood condition, indicating that P3 treatment is best. Conclusion: The best turmeric dosage to improve the immunity of C. batrachus toward A. hydrophila infection is 0.9 g/Kg pellets.
