El Lago de Chapala ha estado expuesto a diversas fuentes y niveles de contaminación, como descargas municipales de diferentes comunidades, aguas de retorno agrícola y aguas residuales provenientes del río Lerma, vertidas por industrias. Por ello, es importante determinar las variaciones que presentan a través del tiempo los organismos fitoplanctónicos en este sistema acuático durante todo el año, y analizar las variaciones de la calidad del agua y sus relaciones en tres zonas del lago. Este estudio, se realizó en el período comprendido entre mayo de 1992 y febrero de 1993, monitoreando 21 estaciones en el Lago de Chapala cada tres meses, tanto en la superficie como a un metro de profundidad, posteriormente se realizó el análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo de los organismos fitoplanctónicos.La calidad del agua se evaluó considerando 23 parámetros con datos proporcionados por el Centro de Estudios Limnológicos (CEL) de Guadalajara, Jal. La mayor abundancia fitoplanctónica fue de 16 048 cel/mL en superficie y a un metro de profundidad de 8 309 cel/mL. Se presentaron procesos alogénicos relacionados con las diferentes condiciones que presentó la estructura del fitoplancton, la turbiedad fue causada en menor escala por la abundancia algal y afectó directamente la abundanciade los organismos, el pH fue básico y los nutrientes como el fósforo total, ortofosfatos y nitrógeno orgánico fueron abundantes por lo que no se consideraron limitantes. Los resultados indican que a través del tiempo el Lago de Chapala ha mostrado valores continuos de calidad del agua con fluctuacionesen algunos registros pero se mantiene la fase de eutrofia como resultado del aporte indiscriminado de contaminantes de diversos tipos.
Los estudios nictimerales son particularmente importantes en los trópicos para conocerlas variaciones ecológicas en ciclos diurnos, y no sólo en estacionales, y lo son no sólo desde el punto de vista conceptual, sino para la aplicación de planes de manejo en diferentes ambientes. El objetivo fue analizar las variaciones del oxígeno disuelto, porcentaje desaturación y temperatura en la columna de agua durante ciclos nictimerales, en los lagos Zempoala y Tonatiahua ubicados en el Parque Nacional Lagunas de Zempoala. Los mayores valores oxígeno disuelto, se presentaron en Zempoala, y la temperatura fue análoga en ambos lagos de acuerdo a los valores promedio totales. La variación de los parámetros estuvo directamente influenciada por la estacionalidad, su morfometría y entorno. El lago Zempoala se consideró como meromictico con tendencias a monomíctico cálido y Tonatiahua comomonomíctico cálido.
En este trabajo, el objetivo fue evaluar cuatro tratamientos utilizando estiércoles de diferentes tipos en cultivos experimentales, estimando su eficiencia en relación a la producción piscícola y las características de cada estanque. Se llevó a cabo en el Laboratorio de Hidrobiología de la UAEM en Cuernavaca, Morelos, México; en estanques de fibra de vidrio, con Oreochromis niloticus albina. Se realizaron análisis del plancton, bacteriológicos, bromatológicos, crecimiento piscícola y fisicoquímicos del agua. Las excretas frescas de pollo presentaron variaciones en la cantidad de nutrimentos. Las abundancias de fitoplancton fueron de 17,008 a 70,080 org/ml. Los más abundantes fueron Closterium sp. En el zooplancton, las abundancias totales fueron de 302 a 1,706 org/ml. El dominante fue Moina sp. El rendimiento fue de 22 a 117 g/m2/6 meses. Considerando lo anterior se observó que la gallinaza digerida fue el estiércol más eficiente de los cuatro. Siempre estuvieron presentes enterobacterias patógenas.
