Introdução: O mundo vive uma pandemia em que um coronavírus zoonótico, intitulado de SARS-COV-2, está infectando seres humanos. Além dos impactos na saúde, ele trouxe também incertezas quanto ao comércio. Objetivo: Investigar e esclarecer a relação entre a abertura do comércio e o número de casos de Covid-19 em Montes Claros – MG, no período entre 05 de abril de 2020 a 30 de junho de 2020. Material e Métodos: Tratou-se de um de estudo transversal descritivo. Quanto aos procedimentos de investigação, caracterizou-se por uma pesquisa documental, em que se utilizaram boletins epidemiológicos. Foi investigada a relação entre a abertura do comércio da cidade de Montes Claros – MG e o número de casos de coronavírus, no período de 05 de abril de 2020 a 30 de junho de 2020. O corte temporal se deu em detrimento a data em que foi confirmado o primeiro caso de COVID-19 no referido município (05 de abril de 2020). A tabulação dos dados e análise descritiva foram realizadas a partir do Excel e, a partir disso, foram feitos gráficos para a interpretação. Resultados: A partir da análise dos boletins epidemiológicos referentes à evolução da Covid-19 em Montes Claros – MG, obtiveram-se os números gerais em que se percebe um aumento de casos de abril a junho. A permissão para comemorações particulares, bares e restaurantes em pleno funcionamento; além das aglomerações em filas de bancos, causadas principalmente pela liberação do auxílio emergencial, não ajudaram no cenário vivido, influenciando no acréscimo de casos confirmados. Conclusão: Evidenciou-se que a abertura do comércio em Montes Claros-MG, de fato, influenciou no aumento do número de casos de COVID-19.
