Objetivo: Evidenciar e revisar sobre os aspectos que envolvem a intrusão de dentes decíduos, capacitando cirurgiões dentistas para uma intervenção profissional segura e de qualidade. Revisão bibliográfica: A ocorrência do traumatismo dentário afeta principalmente crianças e adolescentes, e constitui um evento de urgência assistencial extremamente frequente na prática odontológica. A sua ocorrência requer do cirurgião-dentista amplo conhecimento que propicie a condução de anamnese, exame clínico e complementação diagnóstica; facilitando assim a compreensão da tipologia e extensão da lesão, essenciais para uma condução técnica-operatória de excelência, favorecendo o prognóstico do trauma. No campo da odontopediatria, embora não seja o tipo de trauma mais comum, a intrusão dentária assume papel de destaque pela potencialidade em acarretar danos aos germes dos dentes permanentes em formação. Considerações finais: O grau de intrusão é classificado de acordo com o percentual de visualização da coroa clínica no arco dentário e avaliações importantes relacionadas a idade da criança, estágio de desenvolvimento do dente decíduo ou permanente, intensidade, tipo e duração do impacto determinam a extensão e severidade da injúria. A relevância do tema encontra apoio não só na frequência e consequência dos traumas, mas também pelo nível de impacto psicológico, percebido na criança e familiares.
A segurança da saúde bucal dos indivíduos e comunidades é influenciada pelo conhecimento e entendimento dos processos envolvidos no desenvolvimento da cárie dentária que, ao longo do tempo, vem sendo conceituada sob diferentes óticas. De forma geral encontramos que se trata de uma doença crônica, multifatorial e afetada grandemente pelas condições socioeconômicas. Quando estabelecida proporciona quadros de dor e sofrimento que impactam na qualidade de vida dos indivíduos afetados. Inúmeras pesquisas e estudos comprovam a importância do padrão alimentar no processo de seu desenvolvimento. A condição de sobrepeso ou obesidade, determinada por dietas ricas em gordura e açúcar, aumenta a possibilidade do surgimento de cáries dentárias. Por outro lado, a desnutrição, percebida pela redução de medidas antropométricas para a idade, acarreta maior severidade das lesões. A pesquisa justifica-se pela relevância do tema, acrescenta conhecimentos específicos na formação científica do cirurgião dentista, colaborando para maior eficácia de sua ação profissional. A revisão narrativa de bibliografia é baseada em artigos publicados nos últimos 05 anos, que tem como objetivo apresentar a discussão recente sobre a nutrição no contexto da saúde bucal, destacando o papel da sacarose.
