Objetivo: Avaliar, através de uma revisão da literatura, os impactos das dietas vegetarianas e veganas em crianças e adolescentes. Revisão Bibliográfica: A ingestão de produtos horto-frutícolas por crianças e adolescentes aparenta estar relacionada a uma proteção contra as obesidades geral e abdominal. Contudo, elas possivelmente apresentam um maior risco de deficiências nutricionais, acarretando riscos à saúde. Observou-se que crianças vegetarianas e veganas apresentaram similaridade na ingestão energética e no índice de massa corpórea, quando comparadas às onívoras. Entretanto, veganos apresentaram menores concentrações de eritrócitos, hemoglobina, hematócrito e ferritina. De maneira geral, demonstrou-se associação entre o padrão alimentar vegetariano e a prevenção de doenças. Considerações finais: A alimentação e a suplementação bem planejadas e orientadas aos infantes podem ser significativamente benéficas, evitando futuras complicações à saúde. Contudo, são necessários novos estudos sobre essa temática avaliando as consequências metabólicas a longo prazo, uma vez que dados precisos acerca da segurança do vegetarianismo e veganismo na infância ainda são escassos.
