La voix et son évolution vers une identité masculine ou féminineLes trois paramètres acoustiques de la voix sont l'intensité, la hauteur, et le timbre. L'intensité se mesure en décibel. La hauteur, c'est-àdire la fréquence de vibration des cordes vocales, se mesure en hertz (Hz) et correspond, lors de l'analyse spectrale du signal sonore, à la fréquence fondamentale, ou F0. Le timbre peut se définir comme la « couleur » d'un son, ce sont les harmoniques qui permettent, par exemple, de différencier le son d'un piano de celui d'un violon pour une même hauteur. En ce qui concerne la voix, ils seront appelés formants et notés f1, f2, f3, etc. Physiologiquement, le timbre de la voix est la résultante de la transformation et du modelage du son par les cavités de résonances : le pharynx, la cavité buccale et, pour certains sons, les fosses nasales et le naso-pharynx. Ces trois paramètres vont nous permettre, ainsi que la prosodie (mélodie, intonation, rythme de la parole), d'identifier une voix, voire de reconnaître une voix familière. L'identité de genre vocal se détermine au moment de la puberté. Chez le garçon, sous l'effet de la testostérone, les cordes vocales s'allongent pour atteindre en quelques mois leur taille adulte (16 à 23 mm). C'est un changement assez spectaculaire qui ne passe pas inaperçu.
