Abstract Introduction:In Brazil, the graduate system is relatively recent compared to other European countries and the United States. Physical Disability issue is a current research area in Brazil. It is necessary to know and analyze the productions linked to several research groups on this issue, including the geographical distribution of the areas of publications. Objective: Identify scientific studies published between 2010 and 2013 on physical disability and verify the level of researchers' academic background. Material and Methods: We conducted a documentary study using data available at the website of the National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development, and at the researchers' Lattes Curriculum Vitae. Results: The number of research groups related to this area increased between 1991 and 2013. The groups are concentrated in the Southeast and Northeast regions and in the courses of Physical Education. We observed a positive association between the growth of research groups' scientific production and the number of researchers with doctorate degrees. Conclusion: We found that the scientific production in the area of physical disability showed a significant growth since 1991. The main regions that contributed to this development are the Southeast and Northeast regions, predominantly in the area of Physical Education.Descriptors: Research Groups; Disabled Persons; Physical Education and Training.
