Pour une analyse rhétorique et argumentative de la petite phrase : le cas de « la culture n'est pas une marchandise comme les autres » (1993-1999)* La petite phrase est « une phrase détachée d'un texte, soumise comme telle à des contraintes spécifiques » (Maingueneau, 2011, p. 43). Ce qui distingue la petite phrase des autres types d'aphorismes est sa construction par les médias en évènement discursif, en raison de son caractère polémique (Krieg-Planque, Ollivier-Yaniv, 2011, p. 18). Nous souhaitons aborder la petite phrase sous un angle qui, à notre connaissance, n'a pas été suffisamment travaillé, à savoir son rôle rhétorique et argumentatif dans le discours (Amossy, Koren, 2009). Par rhétorique argumentative 1 , nous entendons l'ensemble des moyens verbaux aptes à persuader, soit « les techniques discursives permettant de provoquer ou d'accroître l'adhésion des esprits aux thèses qu'on présente à leur assentiment » 2 (Perelman, Olbrechts-Tyteca, 1988, p. 5).Nous suivons dans ce but une piste tracée par Alice Krieg-Planque (Krieg-Planque, 2011), qui propose de considérer la petite phrase comme une version plus longue de la « formule » (Krieg-Planque, 2009). Parmi les caractéristiques que ces deux catégories discursives ont en commun, figure la capacité de fonctionner comme un argument condensé à l'intérieur d'une controverse ou d'un débat. Sa structure fixe et rigide lui permet de faire « circuler avec elle un ensemble complexe de positions qu'elle condense, et dont elle tient lieu dans les discours qui la reprennent » (Krieg-Planque, 2009, p. 73, cité dans Krieg-Planque, 2011. Or, contrairement à ces travaux ou à des ouvrages semblables publiés en français, comme Les nouveaux mots du pouvoir de Pascal Durand (2007), les mots sont ici étudiés en corpus, leur sens est appréhendé en discours.
