The article describes the post-mortem vitreous composition, their use in analysis of differents toxicants according to the order of time and the characteristics and advantages of using vitreous humor concerning forensic toxicologial analysis.
A interpretação dos resultados das concentrações sanguíneas de etanol postmortem tem-se constituído numa fonte de discussões, principalmente quando o espécime é procedente de vítimas cujas mortes foram traumáticas ou de corpos em estado de decomposição (CAPLAN, 1988) A difusão passiva do álcool presente no conteúdo estomacal ou nas vias respiratórias contaminada que poderá estar por aspiração de vômitos, continua após a morte. A dosagem alcoólica efetuada no sangue coletado do coração ou da cavidade torácica, poderá estar aumentada em relação ao valor real dessa medida. Conseqüentemente, a concentração do álcool em sangue coletado desses locais, poderá ser significantemente maior do que aquela contida no sangue coletado de veias periféricas (POUNDER, 1995).
