Tumucumaque é nome que refere duas áreas geográficas ao norte do Brasil, o Parque Nacional Montanhas do Tumucumaque e o Parque Indígena do Tumucumaque. O Parque Indígena do Tumucumaque, segundo o Instituto de Pesquisa e Formação Indígena (IEPÉ), “...é constituído pelas Terras Indígenas Parque do Tumucumaque e Paru D’Este, situadas, em sua maior parte, no Estado do Pará, e em uma pequena faixa no Estado do Amapá”. Juntas, as Terras Indígenas Parque do Tumucumaque e Paru D’Este, segundo o IEPÉ, formam o Complexo do Tumucumaque; lar das populações indígenas falantes das línguas Karíb: Apalai, Kaxuyana, Tiriyó, Wayana e Xikiyana. Nesse contexto, a língua Xikiyana possui um pequeno grupo de falantes; adicione-se a língua Akurió lembrada por pequeno grupo que vive atualmente entre populações Tiriyó. Essas populações e línguas geram contextos multilíngues ricos de possibilidades de estudos linguísticos. Assim, o objetivo do presente texto consiste em apresentar um panorama dos estudos linguísticos realizados acerca das línguas do Tumucumaque; com isso, chamar a atenção para sua natureza multilíngue, bem como sistematizar informações (linguísticas) disponíveis sobre as mesmas línguas. Com o conjunto de objetivos, interessa-nos, ao final projetar distintas direções relacionadas a possibilidades de estudos linguísticos dessa área.
Este artigo pretende, para além da comunidade científica, estabelecer diálogo com professores indígenas que atuam no ensino de línguas indígenas brasileiras nas inúmeras escolas indígenas espalhadas Brasil afora. Num contexto em que estas escolas definem-se com os termos da interculturalidade, da especificidade, da diferença, etc., o objetivo do artigo é tratar de possibilidades de ensino destas línguas que ultrapassem práticas metalinguísticas, ao mesmo tempo em que apontam para a necessidade de que o referido ensino considere o contexto linguístico local e regional. Os inúmeros contextos multilíngues inerentes às populações indígenas brasileiras são tratados aqui como suficientes para permitir a estas escolas abandonarem o conceito de bilinguismo, no qual estão presentes a Língua Indígena e o Português Brasileiro, em favor do conceito de multilinguismo, onde estão presentes e valorizadas as inúmeras línguas indígenas. O artigo argumenta em favor de que as mesmas escolas substituam um olhar voltado para duas línguas pelo olhar voltado a todas as línguas presentes no contexto da comunidade. Para isso, utiliza-se do contexto multilíngue inerente à língua Aparai (Karib) – falada na comunidade Bona localizada na Terra Indígena Paru D’Este, Parque Tumucumaque – e seu lugar na escola.Palavras-chave: Aparai; ensino; multilinguismo; indígena.
