Background: Hemangiomas are the most common type of congenital anomaly in childhood. Although many resolve spontaneously, intervention is required when their growth could damage vital adjacent structures. Various therapeutic approaches to childhood hemangiomas with different types of laser have been described previously. The objective of this study was to determine whether the cooling of the epidermis during irradiation of hemangiomas with a Nd:YAG laser prevents thermal damage and decreases the number of sessions required to treat these lesions.
Loeys-Dietz syndrome is a recently described genetic connective tissue disorder. The syndrome is associated with multiple nonvascular phenotypic anomalies but also aggressive arteriopathy, which has so far principally been shown to cause aortic root dilatation with subsequent dissection and rupture. We report the first ever case of a young man diagnosed with Loeys-Dietz syndrome with asymptomatic large bilateral popliteal artery aneurysms. We have successfully resected these aneurysms and revascularized with synthetic graft.
Bleeding is a serious complication of patients undergoing endoscopic sphincterotomy and is the most common sphincterotomy-associated cause of death. Two patients presented bleeding after endoscopic sphincterotomy. Despite injection treatment with large amounts of epinephrine (1:10,000), the bleeding was uncontrolled. Hemostasis was achieved by placing 2 and 3 hemoclips, respectively at the bleeding site. Our cases suggest that postsphincterotomy bleeding refractory to injection treatment can be safely and effectively controlled by endoscopic hemoclipping, thereby avoiding surgery.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
