Over the past 15 years, accelerators emerged as a popular and distinct new form of intermediary organization, playing a key role in supporting entrepreneurial and innovation activities. To date, despite significant growth in accelerators research, there is still little understanding of how different forms of accelerators operate, and what outcomes they produce across different contexts. This paper reviews the existing scholarly research on accelerators using the Context-Intervention-Mechanism-Outcome framework and is based on the analysis of 98 research papers on accelerators published in the last 15 years. The analysis identifies four mechanisms which explain how accelerators operate and the role they play in supporting entrepreneurship and innovation: the validation of ideas and products; the provision of product development and models learning; the provision of support to increase startups' market access & growth; and the provision of support for innovation. The paper identifies the methodological and theoretical gaps in current research and provides avenues to support future research and industry practice.
In a context with an increased level of competitiveness, companies are more and more interested in aspects concerning sustainable development. The implications of inadequate power quality (PQ) can determine important financial losses and influence companies' sustainable development through the generated effects. This article aims to facilitate the management of PQ by proposing a method for estimating the economic consequences of a poor PQ, with priority for the disturbances with significant economic effects. To determine the total cost for each type of PQ perturbation that may occur a classification of cost categories was made such as interruptions, process slowdowns, equipment failure, equipment downtime, reduced energy efficiency, lower product quality, lower labor productivity, and other indirect costs. Each PQ disturbance affects the final end-user differently. For calculating the total value for each type of PQ issues, different calculation formulas have been proposed so that each perturbation includes only those components associated with that perturbation. A case study was used to validate the proposed method. Also, the paper includes a technical and economic analysis of the possible compensation solutions for PQ disturbances that may affect the studied company. In conclusion, an understanding of PQ issues' consequences and an appropriate approach to PQ compensation solutions can be beneficial to any electrical power end-user.
The past decade has seen increased interest in entrepreneurship education outside business schools, driven both by changes in market demand and governmental policies. This has led to an expansion of embedded entrepreneurship education, where entrepreneurship is included as part of existing, non-business courses. Using the context-intervention-outcome-mechanism framework, we systematically review 33 cases of embedded entrepreneurship education programs to understand where, how, and with what outcomes such initiatives were implemented. Our analysis identifies four mechanisms, which explain how embedded entrepreneurship education functions: individual, team-based, organizational, and multi-organizational. Our analysis points to three key recommendations for embedded entrepreneurship education practice and three related avenues for future research: considering program scalability, intended outcomes and misaligned pedagogical models, and contextual diversity.
Community led local development (CLLD) is a tool of the European Commission, used for territorial development. Local Action Groups were funded in the rural areas of Romania, since the 2007-2013 programming period through LEADER, demonstrating positive effects in terms of social innovation and disproof of social disparities. In urban areas, CLLD is a recent multi-fund approach, financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Despite the intentions addressed for simplifying the implementation of the mechanism by the Romanian authorities, several challenges and delays however occurred. The present research reveals the similarities and the main differences between the implementation of the mechanism, in urban and rural areasesides, it proposes a set of recommendations to increase the efficiency of the studied mechanism, based on a case study on the implementation of the CLLD mechanism in Gherla, Romania.
Technology transfer is a fashionable term, a window towards improved processes, and also a huge part of business strategies meant to ensure competitive advantage, progress, and nonetheless, novelty for companies around the world. Due to its relevance and wide applicability, its associated concepts are even more important as they describe how technology transfer works and they also predict how technology transfer will evolve in the future. The purpose of this paper is to present the concepts used in association with technology transfer and consequently to surpass the shortcomings of existing research. Concepts as technology transfer, technology learning, diffusion of innovation, entrepreneurship, knowledge transfer, marketing of research are placed in the context of technology transfer, based on a detailed literature review that we have performed.
The theories on corporate governance influence both the private and the public sector but need to be adapted to the context of implementation. The aim of the paper is to identify and present the main theories that influence the governance of state-owned enterprises (SOEs), providing the theoretical framework for future studies that analyze the application of corporate governance theories in the case of the mentioned organizations. The theories discussed in the current paper are the agency theory, the stakeholder theory, the resource dependency theory, and the institutional theory. The article focuses on SOEs since they have an important role in the economy, but the research on this topic is still scarce.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
