Figurative language is one of the languages used in literary works, especially in song lyrics. It is often used to help songwriters create beautiful songs by conveying unusual words in a song's lyrics. It also gives the right role to the reader or listener. Therefore, the use of figurative language in a work will make the reader or listener excited. The use of figurative language can also make listeners have a broad imagination and understand the meanings available through figurative language in a song explicitly. When people listen to music through its lyrics, language plays an important role in conveying the meaning of the song. Moana is a Disney film that also uses many songs as the background. Therefore, this study aims to determine the types of figures of speech and the meaning of song lyrics in the Moana movie. The researcher analyzed the types of figurative language and the meanings contained in the song's lyrics. The researcher also analyzes how figurative language contributes to the meaning of the song's lyrics. The researcher analyzed the song's lyrics by reading them intensively and paying attention to each line. After that, the researcher analyzed the figurative language and the meaning of the song's lyrics. This is to determine whether the sentences are included in figurative language based on the meaning of the sentences in the lyrics of the song. The data instrument is song lyrics in the movie Moana. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative descriptive method. Through these steps, the researcher found 8 figurative languages in the song's lyrics, that is symbol, metonymy, personification, metaphor, simile, hyperbole, allegory, and understatement. From this thesis, the researcher hopes that they will be interested in learning more about figurative language, and they will better understand the meaning of figurative language in a song.
This paper aims to reveal factors that affect the students' participation in a speaking online class. The subjects are the second and fourth semester students of English department, Language and Culture Faculty, UNTAG Semarang. The research was held during the even semester of the academic year 2020/2021. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method. The data was based on the interview and the questionnaires filled by the students. Some technical issues came up in the online class such as internet connection which mostly became the hottest issue and also the device being used which was sometimes not compatible to the program used in the teaching and learning process. Those issues somehow have affected the online teaching and learning process. The other issues affected in online learning are students’ contribution and students’ condition. For those, it is hoped that the research will give a clearer explanation especially for the teachers who are struggling on teaching the online class and face a similar situation. Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan apa yang dibutuhkan oleh para guru untuk menumbuhkembangkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris para siswa di Taman Kanak-kanak (TK); sejauh mana model scaffolding ini dapat menumbuhkembangkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris; dan bagaimana sebuah model scaffolding dikembangkan untuk menumbuhkembangkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris para siswa di TK. Obyek penelitian ini adalah para guru dan para siswa di TK Mondial Semarang. Penelitian pendahuluan dilakukan untuk mendapat gambaran tentang apa yang menjadi kebutuhan para guru dalam upaya menumbuhkembangkan kemampuan berbicara para siswanya. Untuk menjelaskan keefektifan dari model tersebut maka dilaksanakanlah uji coba. Penelitian ini menitikberatkan pada pengembangan model scaffolding guna menumbuhkembangkan kemampuan bilingual anak-anak di sekolah TK untuk berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris. Kemudian guna membuktikan keefektifan model tersebut, maka model awal diujicobakan. Mengacu pada hasil ujicoba tersebut, kemudian sebuah model tahap akhir di kembangkan. Hasil akhir menunjukkan bahwa para guru di TK Mondial Semarang membutuhkan model scaffolding semacam ini yang memberikan manfaat sebagai model guna menumbuhkembangkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris para siswanya. Selanjutnya model scaffolding yang berdasarkan pada fungsi kemampuan berbicara yang dikemukakan oleh Celce-Murcia et al. (1997) digunakan sebagai acuan dalam mengembangkan penelitian ini. Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa para guru di TK Mondial Semarang membutuhkan sebuah model scaffolding untuk menumbuhkembangkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris para siswanya. Berdasarkan analisa kebutuhan tersebut, sebuah model scaffolding Riddle-Based pun kemudian dikembangkan. Setelah melalui tahapan-tahapan ujicoba maka tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa produk model scaffolding ini terbukti efektif dalam menumbuhkembangkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris para siswa di TK Mondial Semarang.
This community service is one of the activities in the community partnership program. The targets are people who are not economically productive, namely the students of the Qur'an Education Park/ TPQ Asy Syifa' Darussalam in Ringinarum District, Kendal Regency. The activity carried out in this community partnership program is to provide teaching about character education to children with video media. Animated videos were chosen as learning materials because children are usually more interested and easier to learn and understand something based on audio visuals. The study method on the results of this community service uses a qualitative descriptive study. The results of the activity showed that the children were quite enthusiastic in learning the material from the videos provided. The children looked more interactive in the discussion and question and answer (QA) sessions after the video screening and presentation of the material. They are also motivated to learn and practice moral values in their daily lives, so that the children not only will be able to learn religious education, but they will also have a good attitude and behavior.
