En zone agropastorale d’Afrique de l’Ouest, certains producteurs ont des objectifs d’intensification de leurs systèmes de production. Les méthodes de recherche action en partenariat (RAP) peuvent accompagner ces dynamiques, notamment en mobilisant des outils de modélisation. L’objectif de cet article a été d’analyser l’intérêt de l’utilisation d’un modèle de simulation à l’échelle de l’exploitation dans le cadre d’une RAP visant à coconcevoir des innovations agropastorales. L’étude a été réalisée dans les villages de Koumbia et de Kourouma situés dans l’ouest du Burkina Faso. Cet article analyse les résultats obtenus sur sept exploitations ayant un projet de développement d’une activité d’embouche bovine. Des simulations de ce projet ont été réalisées avec un modèle d’exploitation et comparées à un scénario de référence correspondant aux pratiques mises en oeuvre l’année précédent sa mise en place. En parallèle, l’équipe technique du projet a apporté un appui matériel aux producteurs pour leur permettre d’améliorer l’alimentation des boeufs d’embouche en vraie grandeur par le biais de l’introduction de culture fourragère dans l’assolement et de l’amélioration de la capacité de stockage fourrager. Des enquêtes et suivis ont été effectués pour recueillir les points de vue des producteurs sur l’intérêt du modèle et analyser leur adoption des techniques proposées. Les producteurs les plus intéressés par l’usage du modèle ont été ceux en manque d’expérience. Ils ont pu évaluer, à travers la modélisation, les effets escomptés de l’embouche bovine sur le revenu de l’exploitation, le bilan céréalier et le bilan minéral des cultures. Les suivis menés après la phase d’expérimentation ont montré que les producteurs avaient poursuivi les activités simulées par le modèle puis testées sur le terrain. Cette étude montre l’intérêt du couplage de la modélisation aux expérimentations de terrain afin de faciliter l’adoption de techniques innovantes par les acteurs.
