In Korea, Strawberry bacterial angular leaf spot disease was first reported in 2010. The disease of strawberry caused serious problem for strawberry producers and export. To field test, we applied the bactericides in June and October as nursery stage and cultivation stage, respectively. In nursery stage with high temperature condition, Oxolinic acid (97.2%) showed significant control effect. In cultivation stage with low temperature condition is soil sterilization and soil non-sterilization the control effect. In cultivation stage in soil sterilization stage Validamycin (93.3%) showed reliable control effect against the disease. Also, soil non-sterilization stage with low control effect of Validamycin (80%) showed control effect the lower than a soil sterilization stage.
rust infection was consistently found on Peucedanum japonicum growing farm in Yeosu, Korea. The rust was observed mainly on lower leaf surfaces. Symptoms of typical plants included yellow-orange rust pustules were observed on the petiole and leaf surface with small yellowish to chlorotic lesions on the upper surface. No symptom was observed on flowers. Uredinia were occurred amphigenous on leaf surface, and occasionally caulicolous, scattered or loosely aggregate, rounded to oblong, 0.4 to 4 mm in diameter, covered by epidermis, then naked, surrounded by ruptured epidermis, pulverulent, and brown. Urediniospores were ovate-ellipsoid, ellipsoid or subglobose, light brown, 20 to 45 ×15 to 35 mm, walls 2 to 4 mm thick. The resulting sequences were deposited in GenBank with accession No. KT778808, KT778809, and KT778810, respectively. Since this was the first accession of 28S sequence Puccinia jogashimensis, there was no exact match in GenBank nucleotide database. On the basis of the morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analyses of 28S rDNA, the fungus was identified as P. jogashimensis. To our knowledge, this is the first confirmed report on the occurrence of P. jogashimensis on P. japonicum in Korea.
This study was carried out to investigate yield loss due to soybean leaf spot disease caused by Cercospora sojina Hara and to determine the economic threshold level. The investigations revealed highly significant correlations between disease severity (diseased leaf area) and yield components (pod number per plant, total grain number per plant, total grain weight per plant, percent of ripened grain, weight of hundred seed, and yield). The correlation coefficients between leaf spot severity and each component were −0.90, −0.90, −0.92, −0.99, −0.90 and −0.94, respectively. The yield was inversely proportional to the diseased leaf area increased. The regression equation, yield prediction model, between disease severity (x) and yield (y) was obtained as y = −3.7213x + 354.99 (R 2 = 0.9047). Based on the yield prediction model, economic injury level and economic threshold level could be set as 3.3% and 2.6% of diseased leaf area of soybean.
