Resumo: A senescência é caracterizada por alterações decorrente da velhice. Essas alterações influenciam no estado nutricional e estão associadas a vários fatores que podem causar e agravar as doenças crônicas e à incapacidade anátomo funcional. Desse modo, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar as interferências da má-nutrição no envelhecimento e sua relação com as doenças crônicas não transmissíveis. O presente estudo trata-se de uma revisão de literatura, A busca e seleção dos artigos foi realizada utilizando as bases Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Literatura Latino Americana e do Caribe em Saúde Pública (LILACS), Ministério da Saúde (BRASIL) e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), utilizando-se como buscadores os termos "Envelhecimento", "Saúde do idoso", "Doença Crônica" e "Longevidade". A amostra inicial da busca consistiu em 6 livros e 65 artigos, que após avaliados, resultaram na inclusão de 46 artigos e 6 livros. Os estudos mostraram uma elevada prevalência de dislipidemia, formação de placas ateromatosas e doenças cardíacas que se associou ao sedentarismo e a má-alimentação. A saúde do idoso está inerentemente relacionada a fatores fisiológicos, socioeconômicos, psicossociais e fatores secundários, como medicamentos. Nesse cenário, essa população se encontra em uma situação muito propícia ao desenvolvimento ou exacerbação contínua das DCNT. A saúde do idoso está inerentemente relacionada a fatores socioeconômicos, alterações psicológicas, anatômicas, funcionais, má absorção de nutrientes, e fatores secundários, como medicamentos. Nesse cenário essa população se encontra em uma situação muito propícia ao desenvolvimento ou exacerbação contínua das DCNT.
