As a model, we used Chenopodium quinoa Willd. (quinoa), an allopolyploid crop with 2n = 4x = 36 chromosomes. Quinoa originated by hybridization of an unknown female American Chenopodium diploid (AA genome) with an unknown male Old World diploid species (BB genome), dating back 3.3–6.3 million years. Applying short read clustering to quinoa (AABB), C. pallidicaule (AA), and C. suecicum (BB) whole genome shotgun sequences, we classified their repetitive fractions, and identified and characterized seven satDNA families, together with the 5S rDNA model repeat. We show unequal satDNA amplification (two families) and exclusive occurrence (four families) in the AA and BB diploids by read mapping as well as Southern, genomic, and fluorescent in situ hybridization. Whereas the satDNA distributions support C. suecicum as possible parental species, we were able to exclude C. pallidicaule as progenitor due to unique repeat profiles. Using quinoa long reads and scaffolds, we detected only limited evidence of intergenomic homogenization of satDNA after allopolyploidization, but were able to exclude dispersal of 5S rRNA genes between subgenomes. Our results exemplify the complex route of tandem repeat evolution through Chenopodium speciation and allopolyploidization, and may provide sequence targets for the identification of quinoa's progenitors.

BuchbesprechungenDie MarteMeo-Methode des videogestützten Coachings von Eltern, pädagogischen, pflegenden und betreuenden Fachkräften ist in der systemischen Szene inzwischen gut angekommen, bekannt und verbreitet. Seit dem begeisternden Vortrag von der Begründerin des Ansatzes, Maria Aarts auf der EFTA-Tagung in Berlin 2004, haben zahlreiche systemische Institute Maria oder andere MarteMeo-Experten zu großen Fachtagen und Weiterbildungen eingeladen. Dabei fand MarteMeo zu Beginn nicht nur Zustimmung: der eher normative Ansatz einer Entwicklungsunterstützung schien schwer vereinbar mit systemischen Autopoiese-Gedanken.Nun haben drei ausgewiesene Systemiker/innen (seit Jahrzehnten in der systemischen Praxis und Lehre unterwegs) bereits die 4., überarbeitete und erweiterte Auflage des Lehrbuchs zur MarteMeo-Methode vorgelegt; für sich genommen schon ein starker Hinweis auf Verbindungslinien zwischen diesen beiden Ansätzen.Genau genommen entstand MarteMeo aus einem systemischen Impuls heraus: Maria Aarts erzählt bei ihren Präsentationen, wie sie in ihrer stationären Arbeit mit autistischen Kindern (in den Niederlanden Mitte der 70er Jahre) Mütter und Väter einbezog und ihnen zeigte, wie sie mit ihren Kindern in guten Kontakt kommen konnten. Für ihr eigenes Lernen beobachtete Maria zahlreiche Familien mit ihren Kleinkindern und Säuglingen -live und durch Video-Aufzeichnungen -und entwickelte ihre Grundsätze einer entwicklungsunterstützenden Interaktion, die sie Ende der 80er Jahre zur MarteMeo-Methode formte. Das geschah schon damals in internationalen Projekten, unter anderem in Israel, Norwegen (an den Universitäten Haifa und Bergen).MarteMeo (frei übersetzt: »aus eigener Kraft«) will Eltern mit ihren Ressourcen in Kontakt bringen und von da aus positive Entwicklungen anstoßen, die sich dann selbstgesteuert fortsetzen. Nach den gleichen Grundsätzen entwickelte sich sowohl das deutsche wie auch das internationale MarteMeo-Netzwerk: der Funke springt über, es folgen Einladungen in immer mehr Länder, Fachkräfte aus unterschiedlichsten Arbeitsgebieten wittern Nutzen für ihr Tun und laden Maria ein, neue Wege zu beschreiten. Es wurde und ist ein Selbstläufer, eine beispiellose Erfolgsgeschichte mit zurzeit Dutzenden von Programmen in über 40 Ländern.Diese starke Verbreitung gründet sicher in der charismatischen, begeisternden Art der Gründerin, Maria Aarts, aber mindestens genauso stark in der einleuchtenden und Nutzen stiftenden Methode und nicht zuletzt auch in der Kreativität der MarteMeo Expert/innen und ihrer Netzwerke.
