Single
crystals of Li
x
La(1–x)/3NbO3 were grown successfully using
the traveling solvent floating zone method with LaNbO4-poor
and Li-rich solvents. Crack- and inclusion-free single crystals with
a typical diameter and length of 6 and 35 mm, respectively, were obtained.
The crystals grown under Ar flow were black in color, and become colorless
and transparent upon oxygen annealing. The composition of the grown
crystals was uniform with x = 0.070 ± 0.001,
which was lower that of feeds with x = 0.10 because
of vaporization of the lithium component from the melt during growth.
The ionic conductivity of the annealed crystal was anisotropic with
σ[100] = 1.2 × 10–4 S·cm–1 and σ[001] = 7.4 × 10–5 S·cm–1.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
