This study examines the effect of entrepreneurial orientation on performance of selected small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in Southeast Nigeria. The problems that led to this study include, inadequate access to finance, poor infrastructure, inconsistency with government policy, poor support (business development work), inadequate sales, too many taxes and obsolete technologies leading to massive failures. It has not been found that the epileptic growth of SMEs in Southeast Nigeria is not only due to the problems but also from the entrepreneurial orientation. The survey research method was employed in this study and the study relied on secondary and primary data. The population of this study was drawn from SMEs in the five states in the Southeast Nigeria. The study was done using three hundred and sixty six small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Complete enumeration was adopted. Simple regression analysis was used to analysis the hypotheses. The study revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between pro-activeness, innovativeness and risk taking on performance of SMEs in Southeast Nigeria. The study concluded that entrepreneurial-oriented firms tend to lead the industry with innovations, performing things in a better approach to satisfy customers and give the firm a better leverage. The study recommends that SMEs owners and managers should be committed to process and radical innovation in their dealings so as to increase and expand their customer base.
The purpose of the paper was to examine the relationship that exists between Reward Management Practices and Employee Performance in selected Public Universities in the South-East Nigeria. The paper was anchored on Equity Theory. A descriptive survey research design was adopted by the study. Stratified sampling techniques were used to obtain a sample of 365 out of a target population of 7411 using Krejcie and Morgan (1970) formula. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was tested for reliability by using Split half test to determine the internal consistency of the items. The paper used expert judgment method to determine content validity. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC) at .05 level of significance. The findings revealed that there was a significant positive relationship existing between distributive justice and employee commitment (cal. r .893 > crit. r 0.098) and there was a significant positive relationship existing between employee recognition and job satisfaction (cal. r .942 > crit. r 0.0980). It was hence recommended among other things that the focused public universities need to ensure that employees are rewarded justly and fairly and that they need not rely solely on the base pay employee earn but also inculcate several recognition programs into their reward systems.
The informal sector is essential for economic growth. It is a key provider of jobs and income in emerging economies. But the crisis caused by the pandemic has had a significant impact on these economies. Therefore, this study investigates the impact of Covid-19 on the economic prospects of the informal sector of Nigeria and also proposes various strategies to support the sector. The study highlights some of the challenges facing the informal sector of Nigeria, such as institutional inadequacies, unsafe working conditions, poor enforcement and the non-participation of informal entrepreneurs in decision-making. The impact of Covid-19 is felt in different ways, which means that all the elements of total demand will be reduced. The study recommends that the government implement effective and cost-effective tax incentive packages to minimize the impact of corona virus pandemics on the informal sector. The government should also step down from paying taxes in critical areas in response to the crisis to support the informal sector and other businesses.
With the alarming rate Family Owned Businesses (FOBs) die at the demise of its founders/owners this study looks at polygamy and the role it plays in smooth succession of FOBs in the Southeast Nigeria as its major objective. The study demystifised the concept of FOB and succession in FOBs vis-a-vis polygamy. The kitchen model of succession in FOBs operated by polygamous was also explained. Some factor militating against succession in FOBs of polygamous families were discussed in detail. It was concluded that since FOBs play a great part in the economy of nations Nigeria and Southeast part inclusive, those owned by polygamous families need to start the processes of succession early enough to aviod squabbles at the demise of owner/founder. Professionals should also be brought in early to handle major business decisions as well as avoid playing into the hands of sentiments and emotions while making critical succession decisions.
This study examined the extent to which transformational leadership dimensions affect organizational success in tertiary institutions in Anambra State Southeast Nigeria. A cross-sectional research design was employed for this study. A total of 325 staff members from each university were surveyed in this study and the total number of employees was increased to (N) 650. However, 154 usable copies of the questionnaires were finally collected and are used in the analysis of data. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was tested for reliability by using Cronbach alpha to determine the internal consistency of the items. The study used expert judgment method to determine content validity. Pearson’s product moment correlation techniques were used to analyze the data at 5% level of significance. The results showed that transformational leadership dimensions and organizational success in the selected tertiary institutions had a strong positive and significant correlation. The study concluded that leadership is a critical success factor that can bring about changes in employees and universities as a whole. The study recommended that management at all levels in the universities should provide proper self-development plan and build teamwork to ensure continued optimism and enthusiasms within their employees.
