Democracy today faces many challenges including political inequality. Women have been deliberately excluded from political power and participation in democracies. Various studies explained about women's participation in various countries. This paper attempts to study political participation among women in Indonesia in Pemilihan Kepala Daerah (local election) specifically in East Kalimantan. The study employed a qualitative approach and conducted in-depth interviews with relevant key informants as data collection method. Besides voting, there are various political participation form for women in Pilkada. By knowing the various forms of political participation such as voting, campaign, political discussion and contacting, it can be better to analyze the true nature of women's political participation. Lack of participation in various forms of political participation analyses helping determine steps for governments, political parties, and community organizations to increase women's political participation.
The struggle of women to actualize themselves in the political arena is very difficult since the situation that always accompanies is even an obstacle for them to move freely. Meanwhile, political reform which occurred in Indonesia has certainly given great opportunity to women to participate. In this study, the sampling technique is purposive sampling. The analysis technique used in this study is using interactive model analysis. The results of the research are vote casting the most basic of political participation which women are already involved in general election to vote for governor of East Kalimantan. They have realized that their vote determines the future of their region. For this the simplest form of political participation, most of the women in East Kalimantan have performed their right.The role of the participation of women activists is important in inviting women in East Kalimantan to participate in general elections. To increase activist women's participation is not only the responsibility of one party. Political education for women needs to be held more widely, not only for certain groups. Efforts to increase women's participation in politics certainly need systemic collaboration from various parties from the government, political parties, and community organizations.

While woman in East Kalimantan find themselves under represented due to lack of participation woman at every socio-political. Due to every party has their own limitations, collaboration is very important in order to increase women's political participation. The regional head elections in Indonesia especially in East Kalimantan in general still found problems regarding the lack of women's political participation. This paper attempts to study to increase political participation among women in Indonesia specifically in East Kalimantan will be taken as a case study. The study employed a qualitative approach as well as interviews with relevant key informants. The efforts to increase woman's participation in politics certainly need systemic collaboration from the government, political parties, and community organization. Community organization activists in various regions in East Kalimantan can be involved in cooperation to increase woman political participation. Collaboration through political education in East Kalimantan is expected to increase woman's political participation in various forms such as voting, campaigns, political discussions, contacting regional heads or government, and even woman becoming candidates in elections.
