RESUMOEste estudo teve por objetivo descrever as tipologias das Policlínicas Regionais na expansão da atenção secundária. Estudo exploratório-descritivo que tomou como cenário o estado do Ceará. Os dados foram coletados em documentos e bancos de dados estaduais e nacionais, tendo como referência o período de 2008 a 2019. O percurso metodológico foi realizado em quatro etapas: identificação das policlínicas regionais; localização geográfica e abrangência populacional; levantamento de tipologias; análise das características: infraestrutura, profissionais, serviços, equipamentos e modelo de gerenciamento. O teste de Mann-Whitney foi utilizado para estatística inferencial e foi adotado o nível de significância de 5% para verificar diferenças entre as características das policlínicas. Foram identificadas 19 policlínicas implantadas pelo governo estadual, perfazendo cobertura de 90% das regiões de saúde. Foram identificadas duas tipologias: tipo 1 (n=11, 58%) e tipo 2 (n=8; 42%). As unidades do tipo 1 ofertavam 10 especialidades médicas e perfaziam cobertura populacional média de 208.584 habitantes e 54±14 profissionais; as do tipo 2, 13 especialidades, cobertura de 393.940 (p=0,004) habitantes e uma média de 65±15 profissionais. Os achados detectaram seis categorias de equipamentos, sendo o quantitativo superior nas do tipo 2 (74±30,8) em comparação com as do tipo 1, 47, 1±26,5 (p=0,126). O modelo de gestão nos dois tipos foi consórcio público de saúde com participação do ente federativo estadual e municipais de uma mesma região de saúde. O agrupamento de atributos comuns possibilitou a descrição de tipologias que fundamentou a expansão da atenção secundária à saúde, a despeito de permanecerem assimetrias entre as regiões de saúde.
