This paper presents a simulator that graphically presents the influence of rotary-axis geometric errors on the geometry of a finished workpiece. Commercial machining simulation software is employed for application to arbitrary five-axis tool paths. A five-axis kinematic model is implemented with the simulator to calculate the influence of rotary-axis geometric errors. The machining error simulation is demonstrated for 1) the cone frustum machining test described in ISO 10791-7:2015 [1], and 2) the pyramid-shaped machining test proposed by some of the authors in [2]. The influences of the possible geometric errors are simulated in advance. By comparing the measured geometry of the finished workpiece to the simulated profiles, major error causes are identified without numerical fitting to the machine’s kinematic model.
This paper presents a method for moving-object detection and tracking (DATMO) in global navigation satellite systems (GNSS)-denied environments using a light detection and ranging (LiDAR) mounted on a motorcycle. Distortion in the scanning LiDAR data is corrected by estimating the pose (3D positions and attitude angles) of the motorcycle in a period shorter than the LiDAR scan period using normal distributions transform-based simultaneous localization and mapping (NDT-based SLAM) and the information from an inertial measurement unit (IMU) via the extended Kalman filter (EKF). The scan data of interest are extracted by subtracting the local environment map generated by NDT-based SLAM from the LiDAR scan data. Moving objects are detected from the scan data of interest using an occupancy grid method and are tracked with a Bayesian filter. Experimental results obtained from public road and university campus environments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Light scattering and absorption of light in water cause underwater images to be poorly contrasted, haze and dominated by a single color cast. A solution to this is to find methods to improve the quality of the image that eventually leads to better visualization. We propose an integrated approach using Adaptive Gray World (AGW) and Differential Gray-Levels Histogram Equalization for Color Images (DHECI) to remove the color cast as well as improve the contrast and colorfulness of the underwater image. The AGW is an adaptive version of the GW method where apart from computing the global mean, the local mean of each channel of an image is taken into consideration and both are weighted before combining them. It is applied to remove the color cast, thereafter the DHECI is used to improve the contrast and colorfulness of the underwater image. The results of the proposed method are compared with seven state-of-the-art methods using qualitative and quantitative measures. The experimental results showed that in most cases the proposed method produced better quantitative scores than the compared methods.
Following the emergence of COVID-19 pandemic, people in Japan were asked to refrain from traveling, resulting in various companies coming up with new ways of experiencing tourism. Among them, the online tourism experience of H.I.S. Co., Ltd. (HIS) drew more than 100,000 participants as of August 29, 2021. In this study, we focused on an online tour where the host goes to the site and records real time communication using a web conference application. The destinations of online tours were analyzed through text mining, and the characteristics of online tours were analyzed using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) of topic models. The results show that the number of online tours is weakly negatively correlated with distance and time differences. From the topic model, it is evident that the guide is important in online tours. In addition, the sense of presence, communication environment, and images, which are considered to be unique topics in online tours, are also relevant to the evaluation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
