Laboratory rearing of two mite species, Erythraeus (Zaracarus) budapestensis Fain & Ripka, 1998 collected in Turkey and E. (Z.) rupestris (Linnaeus, 1758) sampled in Germany, allowed establishing the correspondence of their larval and postlarval instars. Erythraeus (Z.) iranicus Saboori & Akrami, 2001 syn. nov. is considered a new subjective junior synonym of E. (Z.) budapestensis. Erythraeus (Z.) eleonorae Haitlinger, 1987 syn. nov. and E. (Z.) didonae Haitlinger, 2000 syn. nov. are synonymized with E. (Z.) rupestris. Data on the life history, parasitic associations and habitats are provided, and the status of currently recognized subgenera of Erythraeus is discussed.
A new species, Empitrombium makolae sp. nov., is described based on active postlarval forms and larvae obtained from adult females kept in the laboratory. Based on the adult morphology of E. makolae, the adult life stage of Platytrombidium littorale (Michener 1946) is moved back to the genus Empitrombium. A key to species of Empitrombium is provided.
Deutonymph of Curteria curticristata (Willmann, 1951) is redescribed based on single specimen which is found in Bayburt, Turkey. New morphometric data of this species are also presented in the study. C. curticristata is for the first time reported from Turkey with this study.
The genus Gonothrombium is reassessed, Gonothrombium oudemansianum (Feider, 1948) redescribed and Gonothrombium ozkani sp. nov. described. All larvae were obtained by experimental rearing from field-collected females. A key to species, for adults and larvae, is provided. The distribution of the genus, hitherto known from Africa and Romania, is extended to the territory of Turkey.
In this survey, soil samples obtained from Erzincan and Bayburt provinces (Türkiye) between 2013 and 2022 were evaluated. Eleven species of the superfamily Erythraeoidea Robineau-Desvoidy, 1828 are reported for the first time for the Turkish mite fauna. While 9 of the detected species [Abrolophus artemisiae (Schrank, 1803); Abrolophus miniatus (Hermann, 1804); Abrolophus quisquiliarus (Hermann, 1804); Abrolophus rhopalicus (Koch, 1837); Abrolophus strojnyi Gabryś, 1992; Balaustium murorum (Hermann, 1804); Moldoustium haitlingeri Noei, Saboori & Šundić, 2013; Erythraeus (Erythraeus) cinereus (Dugès, 1834) and Erythraeus (Zaracarus ) rupestris (L., 1758)] belong to the family Erythraeidae Robineau-Desvoidy, 1828, and two species [Fessonia papillosa (Hermann, 1804) and Smaris squamata (Hermann, 1804)] belong to the family Smarididae Vitzthum, 1929. In addition, the diagnosis of the genus Moldoustium Haitlinger, 2008 is re-presented. Also, erythraeoid mites recorded from Türkiye so far are listed.
ÖZETEnemothrombium bifoliosum (Canestrini, 1884) Türkiye'den ilk defa kaydedildi. Türün larvaları alandan toplanan dişilerden laboratuvar ortamında elde edildi. Türe ait ergin, deutonimf ve larvaların yapısal özellikleri ile Enemothrombium cinsinin zoocoğrafik dağılımı verildi.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
