Background and aims: Healthcare delivery requires the support of new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data and Machine Learning to fight and look ahead against the new diseases. We aim to review the role of AI as a decisive technology to analyze, prepare us for prevention and fight with COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and other pandemics. Methods: The rapid review of the literature is done on the database of Pubmed, Scopus and Google Scholar using the keyword of COVID-19 or Coronavirus and Artificial Intelligence or AI. Collected the latest information regarding AI for COVID-19, then analyzed the same to identify its possible application for this disease. Results: We have identified seven significant applications of AI for COVID-19 pandemic. This technology plays an important role to detect the cluster of cases and to predict where this virus will affect in future by collecting and analyzing all previous data. Conclusions: Healthcare organizations are in an urgent need for decision-making technologies to handle this virus and help them in getting proper suggestions in real-time to avoid its spread. AI works in a proficient way to mimic like human intelligence. It may also play a vital role in understanding and suggesting the development of a vaccine for COVID-19. This result-driven technology is used for proper screening, analyzing, prediction and tracking of current patients and likely future patients. The significant applications are applied to tracks data of confirmed, recovered and death cases.
Telemedicine (TM) is used to treat patients in a remote location by using telecommunication technology. It exchanges the medical information and data from one location to another through advanced technological innovation. During this COVID-19 pandemic, there is a lockdown in almost all countries. TM is beneficial to healthcare to minimize social distance. This review paper briefs about TM and discusses how this technology works for the COVID-19 pandemic and its significant benefits. An extensive search is made on the known research engines of PubMed, SCOPUS, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate using the appropriate keywords to extract meaningful and relevant articles. Ten major applications of TM for COVID-19 are identified and discussed with a brief description of each provided. The major technological processes involved in TM, which create advancement in the medical field, are also discussed. This technology helps avoid visits to the doctor and hospital during the lockdown and provides a suitable treatment option. It collects the medical information and data, which can be helpful for better treatment of the patient. Telemedicine adopts virtualized treatment approaches for the patient. Now patients can receive better quality treatment without leaving their homes during COVID-19 lockdown.
Internet of Things (IoT) is a critical component of Industry 4.0. It has extensive applications in the monitoring of production systems in manufacturing and services. This technology opens up newer and innovative possibilities in manufacturing by facilitating higher performance. IoT’s major capability is to collect and share information with the help of internet-connected machines and devices. It is associated with unique identification numbers or codes that can be controllable through our daily use devices like smartphones. This technology’s major components are software, hardware with the network’s connectivity for data altercation, and collection. IoT creates disruptive innovation in the field of manufacturing. The need is to understand this technology and how it can help the contemporary production systems. Here, we have studied the potential of this technology to provide better solutions in Industry 4.0. The major drivers of IoT for Industry 4.0 are studied. This paper discusses how Industry 4.0 helps create a smart factory. Finally, we have identified and studied significant IoT applications to adopt Industry 4.0 successfully, and the same is presented in tabular form. With proper implementation of this technology, industries observe an improvement in efficiency during the manufacturing of products. Manufacturing is done with lesser cost and errors. However, there is a long way to reap full benefits for humankind.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
