-T he objective is to study the effective techniques in reducing the physiological induce postharvest losses in white yam (D.rotundata) in Ganye local Government of Adamawa State -Nigeria. The comparative techniques is to asses weight losses in interval of length of storage using the two method s; wooden box and excavate pit. Fresh sample of yam tubers were weighed and store in both techniques intermittently for duration of 16 weeks. At the end of every month the yam tubers in both methods were weighed and observation recorded. The duration of natural dormancy fluctuates with weight losses between 4 weeks to 16 weeks of storage length. Some of these losses are endogenous i.e. physiological and induced transpiration, respiration and germination. Available information from the experimental result shows that the percentage weight loss of yam tubers stored in wooden box increase to 4 months before sprouting, compare to the pit, which increase to 3 months before sprouting. The loss of fresh yam tuber reduces continuously during length of storage to average of 20 percentage due to ambient temperature and relative humidly during storage. Therefore, yam tubers stored in wooden box prolong the dormancy period for five months before sprouting. Experimental result revealed that yam tubers storage in wooden box is effective than in pit.
This survey study sought to examine the attitude of the parent towards public and private secondary schools in Maiduguri and Jere metropolis. The population consisted of all the parents and guardians of children in public and government-approved private secondary schools: Purposive random sampling was used to select 180 parents from various schools in the study area. Researchers made a questionnaire for data collection. The instrument was validated and has a reliability coefficient of 0.88 determined through the Cronbach alpha method. The data collected was analyzed using mean and standard deviation in answering the four research questions posed. The findings revealed some factors such as teacher quality and quantity, school environment, facilities, effective curriculum implementation, and stability of academic activities as responsible concepts for parents' perception on their preference in choice of secondary schools. The study also reveals that some parents are less interested in quality and standard in training their wards. This has given proprietors of schools the opportunity to establish more schools, some of which are not even registered. It was recommended among others that government should set the standard and regulate the existing private schools, close down those that are not up to standard and improve teaching and teaming facilities in the public schools to make them more attractive.
Africa and Nigeria in particular is blessed with abundant and constant supplies of fine, clean and sustainable mean for rural and urban electricity generation (renewable energy). Renewable energy such as solar, Hydro, Geothermal, Biomass and surface wind etc., has been found very useful in power generation to many sub-Saharan African countries with attendant significant sustainability and reliability. This study was aimed at evaluating and assessing the potentiality of surface wind in Kebbi state for possible power generation thereby mitigating the challenge of energy crisis and demands for rapidly growing population. The suitable model used for the data analysis was ARIMA (1,1,2), and statistics were checked and stationarity of the data were observed and test using Kwiatkowski Phillips, Schmidt and Shin (KPSS) test. The study area from the analysis of surface wind at 0.01%, 0.05% & 0.1% level of significances depicts well for reliability and sustainability for electricity generation in the state. The study found that surface wind due to its abundance in significant amount throughout the year all over the state with highest recorded values obtained in 2009, 2010 and 2011, if well-harnesses and utilizes it could serve as a good prospect for power generation in Kebbi state and its environs.
