Şâhnâme, Ortaçağda İran coğrafyasında Farsça yazılmış manzum bir kaynaktır. Ebû’l-Kâsim Firdevsî (öl. 1020 [?]) tarafından telif edilmiştir. Aynı zamanda İran’ın milli destanı sayılmaktadır. Şâhnâme’de birçok konunun yanı sıra savaş ve silah tarihiyle alakalı önemli bilgiler bulunmaktadır. Bu minvalde araştırmamız, ilgili eserdeki kılıç ve hançer kayıtlarının derinlemesine bir incelemesidir. Kılıç bahsinde kaynakta bulunan Hint, Yemen, Kâbil ve Anadolu kılıçları, kılıçların üretim maddesi, zehirli kılıçlar, kılıç kınları gibi kayıtlar irdelenmektedir. Ayrıca kılıç üreten ve kullanan insanları belirten kelimeler de ortaya konmaktadır. “Hançer” başlığı altında ise eserde geçen Hint, Kâbil ve Pers yapımı hançerler ile keskin hançer kayıtlarından bahsedilmektedir. Araştırmamızda Şâhnâme’nin Farsça neşriyle birlikte görsel malzemeler de kullanılmıştır. Bu çalışmayla eserin daha iyi anlaşılması, savaş tarihiyle ilgili kelimelerin açıklanması ve Ortaçağ silah tarihi çalışmalarına katkı sağlanması amaçlanmaktadır.
Ortaçağ silâh tarihi araştırmalarının en önemli kaynaklarından bir tanesi de cevâhir-nâmelerdir. Cevâhir-nâmeler, doğada bulunan taşlar, metaller (madenler), mineraller ve kıymetli taşlar üzerine yazılmış eserlerdir. Bu kaynak türü, mezkûr konular dışında silâh tarihi hakkında da önemli bilgiler barındırmaktadır. Cevâhirnâmelerde daha çok demir madeninin anlatıldığı kısımlarda silâh tarihi hakkında malûmat verilmektedir. Yine bu eserlerde, çeşitli taş ve madenlerden de silâh imâli ve aksâmları hakkında enteresan bilgiler bulmak mümkündür. Zikredilen kaynak türünde silâh üretiminde kullanılan çelik çeşitleri, Ortaçağ İslâm dünyasında istifade edilen kılıçlar ve özellikleri, kabzalar, ok ile ilgili bilgiler ve silâh üretim merkezleri gibi muhtelif konularda malûmat bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada Ortaçağ İslâm dünyasında yazılmış cevher-nâmelerin silâh tarihi hakkında verdikleri bilgiler ilim dünyasına tanıtılacaktır.
The Shāhnāma is an important source written in Iran in the XI. century. The work deals with ancient Iranian mythology and the stories of ancient Iranian shahs. Abū al-Qāsim Ferdowsī, the author of the source, mentions many arms terms in his book. The subject of this study is about archery terms in the Shāhnāma. In the part of the research about the bows, the terms denoting bow equipment, bow types such as nāvak, charkh, kamān-e Chāchī, bows belonging to the shahs, the words denoting bow equipment in a figurative sense and people who use the bow are examined. In the section about the arrows, the words denoting the arrow, arrow types such as tīr-e nāvak, gāw-dom, tīr-e jawshan, the words that indicate the arrowhead and the terms that symbolize the arrow in a figurative sense are studied. The aim of this study is to clarify the arm terms in the Shāhnāma and to contribute to a better understanding of the source.
The Shāhnāma, written in Iran geography in the Middle Ages, contains many terms related to war equipment. The aim of our research is to clarify the terms related to armour, helmet and shield in the work. In the study, the words used to indicate the armour, the types of armour and the people who use the armour are mentioned. Under another heading, the terms related to the helmet in the source are mentioned. As another subject, issues such as shield types in Shāhnāma and shields belonging to rulers are discussed. Among the results of the study, it has determined that equipment belonging to many arm culture basins was used in Iran in the Middle Ages. It is understood that the war materials used in ancient Iran were also actively used in the Middle Ages. With this study, it is hoped that the source will be better understood.
