In the current study, the aerial oxidation of sodium sulfide in the presence of ultrasonic vibration is investigated. Sulfide analysis was carried out by the methylene blue method. Sodium sulfide is oxidized to elemental sulfur in the presence of ultrasonic vibration. The influence of air flow rate, initial sodium sulfide concentration and ultrasonic vibration intensity on the oxidation of sodium sulfide was investigated. The rate law equation regarding the oxidation of sulfide was determined from the experimental data. The order of reaction with respect to sulfide and oxygen was found to be 0.36 and 0.67 respectively. The overall reaction followed nearly first order kinetics.
The effects of different tempering temperatures and heat treatment times on the corrosion resistance of rolled ASTM A-36 steel in various concentrations of hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium chloride (NaCl) were studied in this work, using the conventional weight loss measurement. Rolled and heat-treated specimens were placed in the acidic media for five days and for seven days in NaCl, respectively, and the corrosion rates were evaluated. The microstructure of steel before and after heat treatment was studied. Corrosion resistance revealed remarkable changes from the effect of tempering after water or oil quenching of steel. Generally, the corrosion rate increases from the effect of steel hardening. Tempering of water-quenched steel at 450Co for one hour highly improves the corrosion resistance of 0.27% carbon steel.
Injectable silicone or microimplant has been extensively used for the soft tissue augmentation. Here we report a case of cystic granulomatous reaction to injectable tissue filler, possibly liquid silicone, used for tissue augmentation in the buttocks. Patient presented with a progressive painful swelling in the lower back over L4-L5 and S1 lumbosacral region of 4-month duration. The lump was excised and microscopic examination revealed multiple cystic spaces of variable size lined by foreign body giant cells and macrophages. There were proliferating spindle cells admixed with many multivacuolated mononuclear cells simulating lipoblasts. These morphologic features were highly reminiscent of atypical lipomatous tumor. To our knowledge, this is the second recorded case from the Middle East of such an unusual foreign body reaction. The dermatologists and pathologists should be aware of this unusual lesion. Although rare, this reaction can have important esthetic implication and the patient should be informed about their risk.
In this study, syndiotactic Polypropylene/Starch (sPP/starch) composites were prepared using a solution mixing technique. The thermal characterization was performed using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), and the melting point was measured for all polymer composites. The thermal degradation temperature was measured using thermal gravimetric analysis. The viscoelastic measurements were performed using the Atomic Rheometric Expansion System (ARES). Both melting point and thermal degradation temperatures were found to decrease with increasing starch content. Moreover, the elastic modulus was found to decrease when the starch content increased.
