O diabetes mellitus tipo 1 (DM1) é uma doença de caráter multifatorial, que acontece em geral, devido a fatores genéticos que na presença de um fator ambiental acaba desencadeando esta agressão contra os antígenos pancreáticos. O DM1 pode afetar pessoas de qualquer idade, surgindo com maior frequência até os 30 anos, e atingindo geralmente crianças e adolescentes. O objetivo do trabalho foi analisar os impactos do tratamento da diabetes tipo 1 na vida das crianças portadoras da doença. Foi realizada uma revisão integrativa da literatura, analisando artigos científicos, livros, teses e monografias, com período das publicações entre os anos de 2003 e 2021, nos idiomas inglês, espanhol e português, por meio das bases de dados SCIELO, PUBMED e Periódicos Capes. A busca foi realizada pelos descritores, diabetes mellitus tipo 1, crianças, pais, psicológico e social. Diante da análise dos estudos, evidencia-se a importância de um cuidado adequado e específico para com as crianças diagnosticada com diabetes mellitus tipo 1, visto que os estudos apresentados identificam que a rede de apoio formada por família, amigos e equipe multidisciplinar, assim como prática de atividade física é de suma importância para que as crianças portadoras de DM1 tenha o controle eficaz da doença. Quanto à nutrição das crianças portadoras da doença, foram encontrados menor quantidade de estudos, eles apontam que o consumo de dietas com maior teor de proteínas, menor teor de gorduras saturadas e com carboidratos de baixo índice glicêmico e carga glicêmica, ajudou no melhor controle da doença.
