Das Cyanhydrin (I) wird mit Lithium‐aluminiumhydrid in Äther zum 1‐Amino‐ 2‐butanol (II) reduziert (Ausbeute 41%) und weiter in Chloroform, Dioxan oder Toluol mit Thionylbromid in das Hydrobromid (III) übergeführt (80%).
Das Hydrobromid von 2‐Brom‐1‐amino‐2‐methyl‐propan (II) wurde nach 3 Methoden erhalten: 1) durch Erwärmen von 1‐Amino‐2‐methyl‐2‐propanol (I) in Ampullen mit 48%iger Bromwasserstoffsäure auf 70‐80°C (Ausbeute 65%), (bei 100°C erfolgt Abspaltung von Ammoniumbromid und Bildung von Isobutyraldehyd (III)); 2) Bromierung von (IV) mit Phosphorpentabromid in verschiedenen Lösungsmitteln oder ohne Lösungsmittel; 3) aus (IV) mit Thionylbromid in Chloroform (Ausbeute 48 ‐ 77%).
