O óleo essencial da espécie Aeollanthus suaveolens (rendimento entre 0,07-0,29%) manteve o mesmo perfil cromatográfico, em coletas por quatro semanas consecutivas, durante o período de floração; e por oito semanas consecutivas, durante o período com a planta sem flores. Os constituintes predominantes no óleo essencial, analisados por Cromatografia em fase Gasosa acoplada a Espectrometria de Massas, foram o linalol, o trans- -farneseno, e a massoilactona. A variação dos rendimentos dos extratos ocorreu em um menor intervalo para as plantas em floração. A composição química dos óleos não variou qualitativamente, com a predominância do linalol. No entanto, durante o período de floração, o conteúdo de linalol decresceu e o de farneseno tomou sua posição como o sinal majoritário nas análises CG. A análise por Cromatografia Quiral em fase Gasosa demonstrou a presença de uma mistura de (l)- e (d)-linalol [(R)- e (S)-linalol (R)- e (S)-linalol respectivamente], numa proporção variando entre de 4:1 a 3:1 para todas as amostras, com as maiores diferenças sendo alcançadas durante os períodos de floração, ou próximos a esta. Experimentos de destilação a vácuo produziram frações mais leves, aonde o linalol chegou a 76% da composição dos constituintes. Traços de outros componentes também foram caracterizados no óleo, como acetato de linalila, acetato de a-terpinenila, acetato de geranila, a-santaleno e cis-a-bergamopteno.
