Se utilizó, un arreglo factorial en bloques al azar con tres repeticiones, para determinar la influencia de la distancia entre surcos (0.25 m, 0.50 m y 1 m) y la cantidad de estacas plantadas por surcos (una o dos), sobre los indicadores de crecimiento del pasto Pennisetum purpureum. C.V. Maralfalfa bajo las condiciones típicas de la Amazonía ecuatoriana, en parcelas de 30 m2, en suelo inseptisol uniforme en su perfil. Semanalmente, se determinó el estado fenológico de las plantas, a los 120 días de plantación se realizó un corte de homogeneidad, a 20 cm de altura del suelo y se determinó el rendimiento de biomasa, la estructura del pasto y se determinó la composición química. La tasa de crecimiento absoluto se midió desde la semana 5 hasta la semana 12 donde declinó el crecimiento. Estos cambios se relacionan con el tratamiento aplicado deteniéndose el crecimiento antes de las 12 semanas de edad. La misma tendencia registra el crecimiento relativo, con inducción a decrecer a partir de la semana octava en donde en la semana 8 registra un crecimiento de 5.8 cm, y a partir de la semana doce momento en el que predomina la pérdida de masa seca, con una mayor acumulación de tallos y material muerto en los pastizales.
