Einige UnregelmZli3igkeiten bei den Atomgewichtsbestimmungen mit dem fruher hergestellten und als rein betrachteten Material hatten darauf hingedeutet, dab mliglicherweise noch Verunreinigungen darin vorhanden sein kbnnten. Es wurde durch Fraktionierungsverfahren weiter behandelt, und zwar einmal durch Teilkristallisation von Scandiumformiat und andererseits durch Kristallisation von Ammonium-Scandiumfluorid In der Tat fiihrten beide Methoden zu dem Ergebnis, daB das altere Produkt noch Thor, Yttrium und Ytterbium in geringen Mengen enthalten hatte, die sich spektroskopisch in gewissen Fraktionen erkennen lieSen, wshrend die Hauptscandiumfraktion nunmehr spektral v6llig rein war.
