CONCLUSIONSThe optimum pressure on the contact surface of the slide plates in assembly of a gate is 0.8-1.2 MPa.It is necessary to install elastic compensating elements in the plate-bolts systemfor the purpose of limiting the unavoidable change in the specific pressure in manipulatlon of the gate.Before repeated use of the slide gate without replacement of the refractories the optimum pressure between the plates must be restored.It is necessary to increase the travel of the movable plate in the gate in order to provide a relative neck length of 3-5 mm for each shut-off.
Vacuum treatment of steel outside the furnace is one of the most effective methods of improving the quality of steel, and is being increasingly developed [i, 2]. For successful operation of plants for steel vacuuming outside the furnace (PVOF), reliable service of the refractories is essential, because the linings of PVOF are subjected to thermal, chemical, and erosive actions by the melts of metal and slag at low pressure.At UkrNlIspetsstal', in collaboration with the Dneprospetsstal' factory, we have developed a new method of vacuum treatment of steel with simultaneous treatment in the liquid slag column (VSC). * The plant for realization of this method (PVSC) differs in design and service conditions from other PVSC.
