Throughout the pandemic of COVID-19, medical students have been undergoing online learning, which has the potential to cause them anxiety. The study’s objective is to determine a relationship between anxiety scales and gender, year of study, resilience scale, and social support scale. This study used a cross-sectional approach with analytic observational methodology. The year of study and gender were in the biodata section, the resilience scale was calculated utilizing the Nicholson McBride Resilience Questionnaire (NMRQ), and the social support scale was calculated utilizing the Oslo Social Support Scale-3 (OSSS-3). The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) was employed to evaluate anxiety scales. The data was examined utilizing univariate and bivariate methods such as Chi-square and Kendall-tau. The amount of respondents was 238 respondents who were selected by simple random sampling. The result showed significant results (p<0.05) for factors that consist of gender (r=0.183, p<0.01), year of study (r= -0.151, p<0.05), resilience (r= -0.297, p<0.01) and social support (r= -0.243,p<0.01). This research’s findings are gender, year of study, resilience, and social support all have a significant correlation with anxiety scale experienced by respondents while participating in online learning.
The medical field has wide career preferences as the medical world develops, making it attractive for students to study medicine. The breadth of career preferences in the medical field exposes students to various career options according to their wishes and abilities. Insight into medical career preferences will help students determine the right medical career. This study aims to determine the determinants of career preferences of medical preclinical students in general in Indonesia. This study used a method descriptive cross-sectional. The data is the result of the questionnaire in accordance with the inclusion criteria of the sample. The number of samples obtained was 145 medical preclinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University. From the results of the study, it was found that 138 students (95.2%) chose a career as a clinician and 7 students (4.8%) chose a career as a non-clinical doctor. Students who choose clinicians, choose a pediatrician and internal medicine specialist as many as 22 students (16.2%). Pre-clinical blocks that are preferred by students are Behavior 87 students (60%) and Endocrine 24 students (16.6%). Parental background, cost, and time required for further education are not obstacles for respondents to choose their career preferences.
Background: Medical students are required to develop the ability and clinical skill to carry out the profession. Soft skill is also important to enhance the students' performance when facing a real-life situation in the community. It can be developed through an extracurricular activity which trains positive behavior, time management, and social aspect. This study was aimed to explore the correlation between extracurricular activities and academic performances among medical students in the preclinical phase. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 221 medical students of Udayana University in the preclinical phase. Data were taken from data collecting by the Student Executive Board for Credit Point of Participation, which was the indicator of extracurricular activities and grouped into active and not active. Data were also taken from the Academic Affair's registered data (Grade Point Average (GPA) and gender). GPA was the indicator of academic performance and grouped into good and average. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis (Chi-Square Test with Cramer's V) on SPSS version 20 for Windows. Results: From 221 medical students (males 43.9%; females 56.1%), 48% are active participants of extracurricular programs. Fifty-nine medical students had a good GPA and 162 medical students had an average GPA. The mean score of Credit Point of Participation are 116.545±65.79 and GPA is 3.3781±0.282 (out of possible 4). Our study showed a positive correlation between extracurricular activities and academic performance (r=0.2; p=0.003). Conclusions: Medical students who are active participants in extracurricular programs have better academic performance than those who are passive. Extracurricular activities lead to a positive impact on academic achievement because it can decrease any academic stress and tension, which lead to more productivity in their learning.
In Indonesia, thesis is a scientific paper written by prospective undergraduates as a requirement to obtain a bachelor's degree in an undergraduate study program which of course in the process often experiences anxiety which will affect the performance of students on campus, especially students of the Faculty of Medicine. This study aims to determine the level of anxiety in the implementation of student essay at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University. This research is a descriptive research with survey method. The number of samples is 170 respondents and sampling method using random sampling technique. The results of the study showed the prevalence of anxiety levels in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University class 2017 in the mild category as many as 135 people (79.4%), the moderate category as many as 31 people (18.2%) and the high category as many as 4 people (2.4%). For each study program, the level of anxiety experienced is relatively the same, the highest category in the mild category, then followed by the moderate category and the last with the smallest number, namely the high category.
