The coherence length of a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser was measured as a function of the ratio of input energy to threshold input energy. The coherence length was determined by photographing, with the aid of an image converter, the fringes produced by a Michelson interferometer. It was found that both the coherence length and the visibility at zero pathlength difference decreased as the ratio of input energy to threshold input energy was increased. The longest coherence length measured was 16.8 mm at a ratio of input energy to threshold input energy of 1.33.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
