L'effet de cinq classes de diamètre du houppier du karité sur les paramètres agronomiques a été étudié en comparant les zones sous houppier et hors houppier en zone soudanienne du Bénin. L'humidité pondérale et la température du sol et les rendements grains et paille du maïs ont été mesurés. La présence des arbres de karité a eu une influence significativement (P< 0,01 à P< 0,001) positive sur l'humidité pondérale et la température du sol de façon croissante avec la largeur du houppier. Les teneurs du sol en C-organique, Ntotal et Ca 2+ échangeable sont élevées sous houppier comparativement à la zone hors houppier. Cependant, les rendements sous houppier sont significativement (P< 0,05) faibles comparativement à la zone hors houppier. Les classes de diamètre du houppier n'ont pas influé significativement la production de grains et de paille du maïs. Les rendements grain et paille sous houppier sont réduits respectivement de 46,6% et de 32,8% comparativement à la zone hors houppier. On note une influence positive du système agroforestier à karitésur l'humidité pondérale, la température du sol, le carbone organique et l'azote total, mais un effet négatif est noté sur les paramètres de rendement du maïs.

This study aimed at analyzing the perceptions of cashew producers of the climate change, climate change effect on cashew productivity and to identify the adaptation strategies developed to mitigate them, two hundred and seventeen (217) cashew producers older than 50 with more than 10 years experience in cashew plantation were selected randomly from 20 villages. In each of the selected villages, the data were collected using questionnaires, individual and group interviews and fields visit. The collected data were sociodemographic characteristics of the households (sex, age, household size, education level, years of experience in the cultivation of cashew, types of the men size of household laborer used, farm size), perceptions of cashew producers in relation to indicators of climate change, and climatic factors that influence the productivity of cashew and especially the various strategies developed to adapt to. These data have been submitted to descriptive statistic, analysis of variance and multivariate analysis. The results this study indicate that the producers of the Central parts of the country were significantly older and more experienced (P<0.05 to P<0.0001) when compared to producers from other areas. The lowest of cashew plantation area were recorded in the North-East despite the availability of cultivable lands (P <0.0001). The producers have reported an increase in temperature and decrease in rainfall and the occurrence of violent winds from time to time. The high rates of dried flowers and yield losses were the new climate change indicators identified in the study. Mulching (71.80%), manure application (7.8%) and regular management of plantations (6%) were the main strategies developed. The number of household laborer, the experience of the producer, determined significantly (P < 0.05 to P <0.0001), the choice of the adaptation measures to climate change. We recommend to assess the efficacy of these strategies for sustainable cashew production.

The present study aims to determine fertilizer (N-P-K) recommendations for maize (Zea mays L.) on Acrisols (south Benin) and Ferric and Plintic Luvisols (centre Benin). Two years (2011 and 2012) experiment was conducted at Dogbo and Allada districts (southern) and Dassa (centre Benin). Six onfarm experiments were carried out to validate fertilizer rates simulated by the DSSAT model. The experimental design in each field was a completely randomized bloc with four replications and ten N-P-K rates: 0-0-0 (control), 44-15-17.5 (standard fertilizer recommendation for maize), 80-30-40, 80-15-40, 80-30-25, 80-30-0, 69-30-40, 92-30-40, 69-15-25 and 46-15-25 kg ha -1 . Treatments 44-15-17.5 and 46-15-25 showed the lowest grain and stover yields. The observed maize grain yields were highly correlated with the estimated grain yields (R 2 values varied between 80 and 91% for growing season 2011 and between 68 and 94% for growing season of 2012). The NRSME values varied between 12.54 and 22.56% (for growing season of 2011) and between 13.09 and 24.13% (for growing season of 2012). The economic analysis for the past 32 years including the current experiment showed that N-P-K rates 80-30-25 (at Dogbo), 80-15-40 (at Allada) and 80-30-0 (at Dassa) were the best fertilizer recommendations as they presented the highest grain yields and the best return to investment per hectare. Nevertheless, 80-30-25 is advised for Dassa considering that sustainable maize production will require regular inputs of potassium. The 2 years of field experiments were not sufficient to derive biophysically optimal fertilizer recommendation rates for each site.

Cette revue de littérature couvre la botanique, la domestication, l'écologie, les systèmes de culture, la transformation ainsi que les contraintes et perspectives pour une production durable des ignames en Afrique tropicale. L'igname est un taxon d'espèces essentiellement tropicales qui nécessitent des températures élevées. Ainsi, la germination est optimale entre 25 et 30°C, alors que des températures inférieures à 15°C ou supérieures à 35°C la retardent. La culture de l'igname se pratique avec succès dans des zones où la pluviométrie varie entre 1000 et 1800 mm ; toutefois, il est possible de cultiver l'igname avec une pluviométrie de 600 mm mais le rendement reste faible. L'igname, pour la croissance végétative et une bonne tubérisation, préfère des sols limono-sableux ou sablo limoneux, ayant une conductivité hydraulique de 15 cm/h, une densité apparente comprise entre 1,1 et 1,6 g.cm À3 et surtout légers, profonds (> 0,6 m), bien drainés, riches en matière organique, en azote, en potasse, en magnésium et en calcium ; un pH compris entre 5 et 7 est aussi propice à une bonne culture d'igname. Au-delà des paramètres édaphiques et des facteurs climatiques, les pratiques culturales, notamment le type de cultivar, la densité de plantation, la date de plantation, les adventices, les maladies et ravageurs, sans occulter l'histoire des parcelles et les pratiques paysannes de gestion du sol, ont un effet sur la productivité des ignames. Les facteurs déterminant le choix des variétés d'igname cultivées par les producteurs sont principalement : la qualité culinaire des tubercules, la productivité, la valeur commerciale, la facilité de multiplication, la qualité des cossettes, la précocité de tubérisation, la conservation, la facilité de culture, le rôle dans l'alimentation et l'importance pour les cérémonies rituelles. This paper presents a literature review about botany, ecology, cropping systems, processing, constraints and prospects of sustainable yam production in tropical regions of Africa. Yam is a taxon of mainly tropical species requiring high temperatures. Germination is optimal between 25 and 30°C, whereas temperatures below 15°C or above 35°C delay it. Yam is successfully cultivated in areas with rainfall ranging from 1000 to 1800 mm; however, it is possible to cultivate yam with a rainfall of only 600 mm, but yield remains low. Le compost enrichi aux fientes de volailles a significativement contribué à l'augmentation du rendement de carottes comparativement au guano avec une moyenne globale de 24,24±1,34 t/ha de carottes fraîches contre 18,93±1,68 t/ha pour le guano.
