-In this paper, a new energy harvesting technology using stray electric field of an electric power line is presented. It is found that energy can be harvested and stored in the storage capacitor that is connected to a cylindrical aluminum foil wrapped around a commercial insulated 220 V power line. The average current flowing into 47 µF storage capacitor is about 4.53 µA with 60 cm long cylindrical aluminum foil, and it is possible to operate wireless sensor node to transmit RF data every 42 seconds. The harvested average power is about 47 µW in this case. Since the energy can be harvested without removing insulating sheath, it is believed that the proposed harvesting technology can be applied to power the sensor nodes in wireless ubiquitous sensor network and smart grid system.
Bisphosphonate generally seems to be safe, but hypocalcemia may occasionally develop in the course of bisphosphonate treatment. Hypocalcemia induced by bisphosphonate is usually mild and asymptomatic, but unrecognized or poorly treated hypocalcemia can lead to life-threatening state. A 78-year-old woman who had a history of hip arthroplasty and intravenous zoledronate treatment for femur neck fracture was presented to emergency department with altered mental status. It turned out that her symptom was due to severe hypocalcemia which was caused by intravenous zoledronate treatment. She also had renal dysfunction. She was treated by intravenous calcium gluconate and calcitriol administration. This case supports the need for evaluation of renal dysfunction, vitamin D deficiency and parathyroid gland dysfunction before bisphosphonate treatment and accurate monitoring of plasma calcium and creatinine levels. In addition, vitamin D and calcium supply during treatment with bisphosphonate is mandatory.
-In this paper, the adaptive particle swarm optimization (APSO) algorithm is employed to design a gain-enhanced antenna with a reflector for energy harvesting. We placed the reflector below the main radiating element. Its back-radiated field is reflected and added to the forward radiated field, which could increase the antenna gain. We adopt the adaptive particle swarm optimization (APSO) algorithm, which improves the speed of convergence with a high frequency solver. The result shows that performance of the optimized design successfully satisfied the design goal of the frequency band, gain and axial ratio.
-A cavity-backed two-arm spiral antenna for partial discharge diagnosis is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a two-arm Archimedean spiral, a tapered microstrip balun as spiral antenna feed, and a ring-shaped absorber-loaded cavity. The Archimedean spiral antenna is designed for the operating frequency band of 0.3 GHz to 1.5 GHz and fed by the tapered microstrip balun. The cavity is utilized to transform the bidirectional beam into a unidirectional beam, thereby enhancing gain. The ring-shaped absorber is stacked in the cavity to reduce the reflected waves from the cavity wall. The proposed antenna is designed and simulated using CST Microwave Studio. A prototype of the proposed antenna is likewise fabricated and tested. The measured radiation patterns are directional to the positive z-axis, and the measured peak gain is 8.13 dBi at a frequency of 1.1 GHz.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
