Diyarbakir Grand Mosque is one of the oldest and the most significant mosques in the Islamic world and the Mesopotamia. The mosque was heavily damaged due to fire following an earthquake which was predicted 8 magnitude in 1114. It was rebuilt between 1117 and 1125. It is predicted that a great earthquake in the forthcoming years will be occurred in the region. Therefore, conservation and retrofitting works should execute for this 891 years old building. In this study, nonlinear seismic analyses of the main prayer hall of the mosque are performed and damage assessment of it due to a probable great earthquake is determined. Material properties of the mosque are defined by using nondestructive tests. Three level seismic acceleration data are produced by considering seismic characteristics of the region. Damage regions on the mosque are obtained under these earthquake loads. Suggestions about retrofitting of this significant historical mosque are recommended.

Abstract-Nowadays, strength characteristics of soils have more importance due to increasing building loads. In some projects, geotechnical properties of the soils should be improved. Geotechnical engineers generally use waste materials to improve soil properties but most of these materials have toxic substances such as heavy metal slags, fly ash, silica fume and industrial resins.In this study, the effects of the addition of a plant gum, named as astragalus, grown commonly in Central and East Anatolia, Iran, Iraq, Turkmenistan and Transcaucasia, on the stability and strength parameters of cohessionless soil were investigated. Astragalus is a pure natural and environmental friendly material. Ground water directly affected by soil additives which used for soil improvement.In this investigation, properties of a cohessionless soil were stabilized by using astragalus. In order to find out which rate of the additive caused maximum strength parameters of the soil samples which prepared by using four different replacement amounts of 0%, 3%, 5% and 10% by weight of soil. Maximum dry densities and optimum moisture contents were determined for each mixture. Strength parameters of each mixture were also determined. According to experimental study, adding 1% of astragalus content is convenient for sandy soil when considered strength parameters and economical respect of additive material.

ÖZİnşaat mühendisleri, yapı malzemesi olarak kullandıkları kayaç malzemesinin fiziksel ve mekanik özelliklerini bilmek zorundadır. Özellikle yol kaplamalarında kullanılan yapı malzemesinin aşınma direncinin tespiti, hava alanları, limanlar, otoyollar gibi yüksek aşınmanın gerçekleştiği yerlerde büyük önem taşımaktadır. Kayaçların aşınma oranının belirlenmesi için genellikle Los Angeles aşınma deneyi yapılmaktadır. Ancak Los Angeles aşınma deneyi yapılması zaman alan, pahalı bir deneydir. Yapılan çalışmada kayaçların Los Angeles Kayıplarının basit laboratuvar deneyleriyle belirlenmesi hedeflenmiştir. Bu amaçla, beş kireçtaşı kayaç numunesi kullanılmıştır. Bu numunelerin birim hacim ağırlıkları ( n ), poroziteleri (n), hacimce su emme yüzdeleri (S n ), schmidt sertlikleri (N L ), P ve S dalgası hızları (v p ,v s ), serbest basınç dayanımları (UCS) ve aşınma yüzdeleri (LA 500 ) tespit edilmiştir. Bu veriler ışığında regresyon analizleri yapılarak deney sonuçlarına çok yakın sonuçlar veren (R 2 =0,99) eşitlikler elde edilmiştir. Bütün deney sonuçlarını kullanmadan sadece endeks deneylerinin sonuçlarını kullanarak yapılan regresyon analizinin sonucunda elde edilen determinasyon katsayısı ise R 2 =0,96 olarak bulunmuştur.Anahtar Kelimeler: Kireçtaşı, fiziksel özellikler, Schmidt sertliği, Los Angeles aşınma deneyi, regresyon analizi DETERMINATION OF ABRASION LOSS OF LIMESTONES USING INDEX TESTS ABSTRACTCivil engineers should know physical and mechanical properties of stone material which is used as construction material. Determination of abrasion loss is very important at design of pavements of airports, highways harbors etc. The Los Angeles (L.A.) abrasion test is a common test method used to indicate aggregate abrasion characteristics. However Los Angeles test is a time consuming and expensive test. In this work, abrasion loss of stone samples is determined using only simple laboratory tests. For this purpose, 5 different limestone samples are used. Densities ( n ), porosities (n), water absorption ratios by volume (S n ), Schmidt rebound values (N L ), P and S wave velocities (v p ,v s ) , Unconfined compression strengths (UCS) and abrasion loss percentages (LA 500 ) of all samples are determined. Statistical analyses are conducted by using these values. High determination coefficient (R 2 =0.99) is obtained by using all test results. However, using the results of index tests, determination coefficient is calculated as (R 2 =0.96).
